Dog bites passerby and owner in court

Raymond Silva

Turning to the courts, allowing a ferocious dog to be at large; it’s not a common charge, but it’s the reason why a Belize City doctor appeared in Magistrates Court this morning. Dr. Raymond Silva is representing himself in the trial, which stems from a report by his neighbor, Renisha Diego that he allowed his German shepherd dog to attack her. Diego testified today that the incident occurred at around seven p.m. on January twenty-fourth, as she was walking past Silva’s house with her baby girl. She claims that Silva was reversing his vehicle into the yard when the dog rushed out and went straight for the baby, who was in a prom. But according to Diego, she turned the prom away and the dog bit her leg. In the midst of the ordeal, Diego says she was calling out to Dr. Silva for help, but to no avail. She alleges that he locked up the dog and drove off after the damage had been done. PC Errol Jones came to Diego’s assistance and rushed her to the hospital to have the wound treated. The prosecution has closed its case and Silva will present his defense next Wednesday when the trial continues.

  2. Somewhere in time says:

That is why you should properly contain your dogs people. Mr. Silva is totally responsible for this. Strange I don’t hear people screaming to ban GSDs.

  3. Elias says:

Sad that this attack occured and the Doc should have assisted.
On another note, I am a pitbull owner and I am glad the pitbull is not getting the bad press this time. More attacks are from other breeds than pit bulls. Just some facts.

Is he really a doctor? what kind of a doctor? It is amazing what goes on in Belize… How heartless is that ? a woman with a baby and to just ignore? If that was in US the city would be outraged and that doctor would be hiding and seeking an attorney!

  5. oscar965 says:

The dogs are almost never to blame. The fault always lie with the owner. It is easy to say “I want to be a pet owner” but with that comes responsibility. The doctors should have put the dog on a leash before opening his gate. I just hope that one day if Doctor Silva is in trouble that someone will come to his aid, but if Karma is true then Doctor..NO ONE WILL HELP YOU!!!

  6. Disappointed says:

What kind of Doctor is he to even bothering to assist the woman, for that matter what kind of man is he to not stop and assist a woman with a baby. You PIG

  7. DT says:

He should have be struck off the Medical Practitioners list on conviction, and never allowed to practice in Belize. Sounds harsh?? He is a Doctor, and he failed to have the dog secured when he opened the gate, allowing it onto a public road. Not only that, but he refused to help the lady while the dog was attacking her, closed the gate, after getting the dog back into the yard, and drove off!

Obviously he thinks he is a better human being than the rest of us peasants, but that isn’t the point. he is from the medical profession, and should have attended to the lady, who was bitten by a dog while he was there. It happened to be his dog, but it could have been any dog – He should have helped!

I hope the courts throw the book at him, and that the dog gets put down soon, as he eithe won’t, or cannot control the beast.

PUBLIC OPINION………….CAN BE A WONDERFUL THING.

  9. mylegacyb4mypeople says:

Do people in Belize actually let a person like this tend to them as a doctor? Normally one would make a call to put the dog to sleep but in this case it appears that the owner should be the one to be put to sleep, absolutely no use to society, so smart to represent himself in a court of law but not smart enough to be humane I hope the court throws the books at him as an example. My Legacy B4 My People.

  10. Fairman says:

We can put him down by simply avoiding him. He will then go down on his own.
