Pollers say they believe that electricity rates should reduce

Following the expropriation of Belize Electricity Limited earlier this week, we asked viewers if they believe electricity rates should down since the company is now in government hands. The results of our online poll were split seventy to thirty percent, with the vast majority of voters saying yes to reduced rates. But on the comments on our blog many persons strongly objected to lowering the rates. One of them said that “if they bring it down, the taxpayers will have to pick up the tab. No more taxes, let the electricity pay for itself.”

  1. Wendy Chiarelli says:

Rates for energy must always cover the cost of the provision of that energy. If not – who picks up the tab? It is only right and proper that those who use it should pay for what they use – if you can’t afford it then don’t use it.
The whole sorry mess is the result of social engineering for political reasons by the PUC.

  2. Hill says:

Who wouldn’t want the rate to reduce?

  3. lucas says:

Well, do not expect any reduction.

  4. stupid says:

Stupid people… how on earth can rates be reduced. That’s why we’re in this mess. The only way rates can go down is if the cost of providing the energy becomes cheaper, not just because some eeeeediot said something stupid and unattainable in an election promise.

Wait, newsflash, that’s what its all about isnt it. So go ahead and take the bribes when its your turn to vote.

    Stupid people.
