National Trade Union Congress of Belize says it supports nationalization, but has concerns

Turning to another company that has been nationalized, B.E.L. The National Trade Union Congress of Belize says that while it supports the nationalization, there are some concerns. The NTUCB says it will monitor the progress at BEL and insists that the government should avoid cronyism and ensure the flow of electricity with stable and affordable rates. The release says “We stress that what the government is legal but compensation must be paid. We are cognizant that these events can impact investor confidence but in the global financial climate investment on a whole is slow.” Considering the judgment today in the Appeals Court on Telemedia, it all depends on Fortis’ Stan Marshall to decide if he wants to challenge the constitutionality of the BEL nationalization.
