Bus owner Gilharry encounters a roadblock in Court

Froylan Gilharry

Northern bus operator, Froylan Gilharry, filed for a judicial review of the revised bus schedules, claiming that he lost all his profitable runs. That matter comes up on July twenty-first, but in the meantime, Gilharry also requested a stay of execution of the new runs which were implemented last Sunday. Supreme Court Judge Oswell Legall heard the application on Monday and refused Gilharry’s request. Justice Legall explained that if he granted the stay, it would put business on hold for the other operators and affect their right to earn a living. Lumor argued that the court should consider the rights of his client, but Nigel Hawk, who represented the Belize Transport Board and the Attorney General’s Office, was emphatic about the effects on the operators who are not involved in the case. Gilharry remains hopeful for a better outcome at the judicial review hearing and says he will consult his attorney to determine whether he will service the newly assigned routes in the interim.

If Mr. Gilharry would have just listen to the Corozal commuters, he would have our full support. All the time commuters were giving recommendations and he ignored them. Venus has the most terrible buses in the industry. Until recently he obtained some good buses, increased the prices and treated commuters like $#!%!

At the moment, Moralez doen’t have comfortable buses but you get better treatment and they are listening to the recommendations being given. I just hope they implement it.

My question to government is, why in Corozal there is only one bus line running at a time? Look at Orange Walk, there is so many buses to choose from. That’s why we Corozalenos have to take whatever $#!% is given to us. There should be competition so that there is a balance.

By the way, there is no straight run from Belize to Corozal at 5:00pm. We have to be chasing buses in Orange Walk. This is ridiculous!

The Prime Minister should remove Mr. Hulse ( to have a bit of respect and I don’t referred them as Honorable because they don’t have anything honorable. This is something they have to earn; it should be authomatic) vehicle and have him travel by bus so that he can get the sense and understand the bus industry better!

Uhm first off you wouldn’t know what he went through or being in mr. Gilharry’s shoes to get where he is. He is a wonderful very kind and giving man so please don’t speak upon what you don’t know also he’s not the one treating you like that in a bus it’s people who have worked for him. I guarantee you that if he knew or complaints where made to the right person instead of talking these opinion which are entitled to you. It would be taken care.
