2 men charged in connection with shooting of Belama police officer get bail

Two men who allegedly ambushed and shot a police officer in the Belama area are free to roam the streets tonight after being released on bail. Twenty-four year old Karim Morris and twenty-seven year old Linsford Acosta are facing numerous charges including, Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm, Use of Deadly Means of Harm, Robbery and Kept Unlicensed Firearm and ammunition.

The attempted murder charge came up today before Magistrate Emmerson Banner and since they have already spent ninety days in jail, Morris and Acosta were granted bail of ten thousand dollars each. The men were arrested following an incident on March twenty-seventh, when Police Constable Nigel White was the sole officer on duty at the Belama substation. White was shot in the chest and robbed of his service revolver. Morris and Acosta were arrested along with Elroy Smith, who is only charged for firearm and ammunition offenses. They are due back in Court on August nineteenth.
It is a sad day when you can shoot a police officer and walk out of jail on bail. What the hell, sorry for the language, but I get so mad when I read these stupid legal moves. The question is why arrest them anyway, just give them a public recognition thanking them for being criminals and mocking the justice system. Please get tough on crime and criminals who commit them.
Ok I get it the court is hoping that these criminals will skip bail so that they can keep bond, darn I did not know Belize was in such desperate situation. Remember My Legacy B4 My People.

I thought that keeping unlicensed firearms and ammunition was a serious crime and is not entitled to bail. Are this people UDP thats the only way i can think that they can walk away with bail having almost killed a police officer. What about the police officer? Do you think he will feel confortable knowing that this people can meet him and finish the job someday?? Please what is this country getting to? Ammendment to laws, high crime rates, Dictatorship… this country is no longer safe and will not be unless this government is taken out… we definitely need to do something. It is not Barrow who rules the country. We need to stand up for our rights Barrow needs to be taken out…
Unbelievable. Bond should not be allowed for shooting a police officer. These criminals will be long gone before August 19th. This is just another incidence of the court system dispensing some new age justice. It would be justice if these two hunted down and shot the individual that granted them bond. Makes you feel real safe in your bed, doesn’t it?
attempted murder of a police officer, aggrvated assault, armed robbery and still get bail!!! but wait the police station is still closed down 90% of the time..a definite slap in the face to the entire police force..
Let’s hope the Police dish out some street justice on these two, and once the word gets out, nobody on remand for gun-related crimes will even as for bail!
Bail should not be offered to any suspects of gun related crimes, smple as that, and a witness protection scheme should be operating too, to avoid hostile witnesses or victims ‘not wanting’ any further action!
