Wayne Usher, City councilor, rejuvenated for election

Wayne Usher

Councilor Wayne Usher is a known ally of Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers. The council has gone from one controversy to the other in its current term, but Usher is making an early bid for re-election. We usually don’t cover the campaigns of individual councilors, but we were there when he announced his candidacy today. Usher told the media today that the convention is set for August twenty-first at the IT-VET. When drilled about why anyone would want to support him for a third term, Usher said that the public should look at him for his successes and not the failures of the council.  Usher also provided an update on the Lord Ridge Cemetery, which has been a point of contention since it was announced that it is fast running out of space. A new burial site was opened at mile thirteen on the Western Highway, but that brought its own problems because the Hattieville residents were against the project. According to Usher, a statutory instrument in the works to legalize burials above ground at Lord Ridge.

“The statutory instrument is nearing completion, it’s being gazette and that will change the whole concept of how we bury our dead at Lord Ridge for the better. As a matter of fact, I had mentioned in the past, that once this statutory instrument is passed, we will bury at least forty thousand people plus at the Lord Ridge because the statutory instrument will now allow us to have above-ground burials. I have always championed for us to do that. Now it’s going to be legal to have at least three tiers of bodies above the ground legally. And that is a big plus for those persons at lord Ridge who have relatives there and they can now be buried on top or in the ground with their loved ones. So that’s a big plus. So I’m happy about that.”

According to Usher, there are about seven councilors who are considering going up for re-election.
