After attempted sodomy incident, politician says area needs electricity

Reginald Cumberbatch

On Monday, July twenty-fifth, Reginald Cumberbatch was charged with one count of aggravated assault after he allegedly tried to sodomize a fourteen year old boy. The incident took place on Thursday night in the western village of Succotz. The minor went to accompany Cumberbatch out to the road after his mother completed a transaction with him. Now, the area where the boy lives has no electricity and P.U.P. Standard Bearer for Cayo West, Oscar Sabido, says that the lack of development and infrastructure helps to encourage these kinds of crimes. He shares his perspective on the situation.

“The economy is seriously affected by bad streets, bad drainage, poor lighting. Lighting is one of the most basic elementary utilities, which you should have in a large town like Succotz. Succotz is growing, it is a very large town and it has areas which are developing fast. Like this particular problem, which we had, two days ago, where you had this incident where a crime was about to be committed a serious crime at that. And it’s because there are areas in Succotz where people are afraid to walk and therefore if they’re afraid to walk and therefore if they’re afraid to walk and somebody by chance ends up in that area, especially a child, the child is prone to being attacked. And this is exactly what happened because the lack of infrastructure, light infrastructure. This is where the abandonment and the obvious failure to attend to basic infrastructural needs in a large town like Succotz and Benque also. We’re seeing the effects of it now which is social disruption.”

this man is just singing. He wants to win, that’s all. But like Muta Baruka says, “when you are not in power, Your Honor, it is easy to say this and that, but when you have power, it is very different, a different song you have to sing.”

  4. Hellloo says:

let’s not forget the real victim here, a young boy was forcibly violated. what conselling services are available for him. how many psychiatrist and psycologists are employed by ministry of health or human services to deal with victims of sexual assault. victims of sexual assault in this country are on their own, they need to go to the regular police station where there is no anonymity or sensitivity for such cases, it is a shame…

Why are we so reactive instead of being proactive? We sit and wait for things to happen then explain why. These are things that could have been addressed and were not.If people noticed a need they should voice their opinions. Sometimes we have to take matters into our own hands to get what we want.
