Police and civilian prosecutors receive training
Conflict of interest is only one of several ethical issues that are waiting to be tackled, which is why ABA ROLI dedicated Wednesday afternoon to the police prosecutors. According to ABA ROLI’s Country Director, Antoinette Moore, seventeen of the eighteen prosecutors from across the country attended the training session.

“There are a variety of issues that we believe the police prosecutors are aware of but what they may not be aware of are the various codes of conduct and the ethical rules that they can go by in terms of trying to determine what behavior they should have in these situations.”

“So what should be the benefits for them after today’s session?”

“We’re hoping that they will have something to rely upon, some written authority. If for example, a police prosecutor is told by a superior officer to do something that they think is improper. It’s very difficult for that police prosecutor to refuse a superior order. But we’re hoping now that they’ll have some written documents that they can rely upon and some guidance for them that they’ll be able to more readily deal with situations they find themselves in.”

“I noticed that when you asked how many of them own a current constitution, not one hand went up. Do you think that’s a part of the problem?”

“I certainly do. In this day and time we’ve all been talking about the constitution so certainly the police prosecutors should have a current copy of the Belize constitution; one that has all the current amendments and I think ABA Roli will rectify that soon and make certain that each one has a copy of the current constitution. We just hope that this is one of a series of trainings that we will ultimately embark on with police prosecutors. We are going to work with the Police Department, the Legal Council, the commissioner. We’ve already had discussions with them and this is part of the mandate of the American Bar Association here for two years and hopefully longer in helping the justice system to improve itself.”
It would be nice for us ALL to have a current copy of the Constitution with all the amendments. Can’t get one on-line. Where does one get one, and should it be that hard to get a current copy of the Constitution?
This will do no good because you have nothin but incompetent people in these positions people with no brains worse gov in the history of Belize.

ONE YEAR FROM NOW…………WE SHOULD SEE RESULTS of THIS TRAINING.
They’re not going to make copies of the constitution available to the General Public because they want to have control over them and keep them ignorant.As long as you can keep someone ignorant you can control their actions.
This lady Moore is not fighting for human Rights.She is fighting for criminal rights.You’re educating the police what about the General public?
The Constitution is available online at http://www.belizelaw.org or hard copies from Print Belize Ltd (latter has a charge). Anyone who is interested in doing right can obtain a copy. We have the choice of educating ourselves or remaining ignorant!
