Politician lays out plan for Cayo West
On Wednesday night the P.U.P. Standard Bearer of the Cayo West Division, Oscar Sabido spoke of the lack of developmental infrastructure in that constituency. As a result, Sabido said he is bringing an economist to assess the Cayo West with the objective of formulating a policy for economic development.
Oscar Sabido, P.U.P. Standard Bearer, Cayo West
“We are [umm] asking a professor, who is a professor of economics dealing specifically with the economy of developing countries to come to Cayo West and he will be visiting with us for about three days in the month of August. He is an advisor to the World Bank and he is also a professor at the University of Illinois in Champagne, Urbana. And we have great confidence that he will be able to assist us in many ways in looking at what is happening in Cayo West and giving us ideas especially from a development aspect of a small developing country.”
Andrea Polanco
“Why do you feel that it is so important for you to be taking out of your pocket and to be contributing towards the development of the Cayo West community?”
Oscar Sabido
“It has been long wanting—in other words, it’s something that should have ben attended a long time ago. And not only my area, but all the areas in Belize that are called the rural areas. The rural areas are areas that have not had their fair share of development in the past which is a factor in development in Belize for any government that has been in power before. The sugar industry for example is localized and that is an area which is localized, but there are many other areas of the rural areas of Belize that are in dire need of development and I believe that I should make a contribution because I come from that area. I think that I owe a duty to the people from the area from where I come originally. All of us have to make a contribution to bring about development in our country.”
An economist may not be needed, all he needs to do is to listen to the constituents, you have many ideas floating around but guess that doesn’t fit his agenda
So Mr. Sabido, you think that there is no “economic expertise” in Belize that can better assess all the needs for your area and the country that you have to bring alien input. We will be watching and assessing. Just make certain he is apprised of the fiscal situation, the oppressive tax burden, the wretched miasma of the politics in Belize, the cultural shock to be experienced when he presents his recommendations, the paucity of fair minded politicians and the lack of their philosophies in proffering and accepting sound economic and financial advice, albeit free.
CHEAP POLITICAL MILEAGE!!!!!!! HERE WE GO AGAIN
