GOB should not cast any aspersions on the Supreme Court

Dickie Bradley also said that the executive of government should not cast any aspersions on the Supreme Court.

“It is so—let me try and find words—it is so very wrong for the leader of our country, for the prime minister to attack the chief justice on a decision that he made. It is equally wrong for any minister of government, any member of the National Assembly to be casting aspersions on the person of the former chief justice of this country, Honorable Abdulai Conteh. It is open to the prime minister to say he disagrees with a decision of the chief justice and the Supreme Court. It is not his duty, it is not his responsibility, it is not his place or function to say that the judge is wrong. He, Dean Barrow, can say that, but as the prime minister of this country and as the leader of the executive branch of government, he is duty bound to follow the decision of the Supreme Court. As a matter of fact on law, if he disagrees on a point that is important and needs to be clarified, you appeal it so that a higher court can pronounce upon it.”

And as we said, the consultation takes place this Wednesday in Belize City. Citizens are encouraged to attend.
