Aggravated assault upgraded to attempted rape of 10 year old

Forty-two year old Belize City resident, Dean Bennett, was charged with Aggravated Assault of an indecent nature one month ago and was remanded without bail. Allegations are that Bennett abducted a ten-year-old girl on June fourteenth and molested her. Today the charge against him was upgraded to Attempted Rape when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie. Since Bennett is now facing an indictable offence, no plea was taken and the case will now go to a preliminary inquiry. The prosecutor objected to bail, citing the gravity of the upgraded charge, the strong possibility that the accused would not reappear in court as well as noting the tender age of the alleged victim. It was also noted that Bennett might interfere with the young girl and other witnesses, if granted bail. With that, Bennett was further remanded until October eighteenth, but he has the option of applying to the Supreme Court for bail.
Give him a fair trial, convict him, surgically remove his ‘little brother’, & lock him up for at least 15 years. Fair enough?
