3 Belize City men on charges related to city burglaries

Sheffield Ysaguirre

Three Belize City men appeared in Magistrate’s Court today on charges related to two burglaries which occurred in the Old Capital over the weekend. The Lawn and Garden Depot on Mercy Lane was broken into between five o’clock on Friday evening and eight-thirty on Saturday morning.  Eight trimmer cutters and a chainsaw, a total value of fifteen thousand, six hundred and seventy-two dollars, were reported stolen by business owner Carlo Marin. The culprits entered by cutting the padlocks from off the shutters facing the northern side of the building. Police recovered the items from the home of twenty-four year-old Sheffield Ysaguirre, a fisherman of Iguana Street Extension, who was read charges of handling stolen goods, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Sherman Galvez

Meanwhile, twenty-five year old Sherman Galvez and twenty-three year old Channing Garoy both pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods from Sherry’s Shop on Central American Boulevard on August twenty-first.  According to the owner, thirty-eight year old Yin Li, a laptop, assorted liquor and electronics, three digital cameras, a printer, grocery items and four hundred dollars in coins were stolen. Police later recovered some of the liquor, twelve packs of warm caps and four packages of Super Glue in a yard two houses away from the establishment.

No one was seen in the area.  The laptop was recovered at Galvez’s residence and a black laptop and HP Deskjet printer was recovered from Garoy’s residence. Galvez and Garoy were fined two thousand dollars each by Magistrate Emerson Banner, which they must pay by September thirtieth or face two years imprisonment.
