Resounding response from viewers about GOB bargaining with criminals
At the top of the newscast we told you about innocent citizens who have been targeted by violent criminals. The blood lust amongst gangs have been set on citizens rather than on opposing street factions since last week’s meeting with the Prime Minister. PM Dean Barrow brought the Belize City gangs to the table to negotiate a truce and provide some reprieve from the urban warfare in the streets. While it has proven successful on some level, should the prime minister have to bargain with gangs to curb crime? That’s what we asked our viewers this week and the response from seventy-nine percent of voters on our e-poll was a resounding no while twenty-one percent agree with the PM. One blogger commented that “negotiations with the gangs do more harm than good. This will only give the gangs more power and exposure and the PM is legitimizing their demands by having these negotiations.”
I had to laugh when I read the headline on lovefm “Gang members complain they were disrespected by Minister Boots” – sooooo….we’re supposed to give criminals respect?

well he should have negotiated for them to stop shooting, killing and robbing businesses and innocent people on the street. and they should continue to shoot and kill each other. so, now we have gangs that are UNIGANG like UNIBAM. so who suffers when the UNIGANGS stop killing each other, Who suffers when the UNIBAM stops Bamming each other? I pray the PM doesn’ negotiate with UNIBAM next becase that will be a pain in the …. for all of us.
But seriously during this gang truce, how do the gang members earn a living? did they stop selling drugs also>? or robbing and killing the innocent also?

Why does the PM constantly meet with these gang leaders behind closed doors, without not even the media present for coverage??? What does he have to say in private that, the entire country can’t hear??? Is this his method of resolving the calm, for the time being, the September Celebrations??? Why is he not on every televison station broadcasting to the people of Belize live, telling these gang members that he will CONTINUE the fight against the increase in crimes murder rates, and trying to encourage decent, solid, citizens of Belize, no matter what race, class, etc. that he will sit with his GSU instead, to come up with improved methods of dealing with people. This is the 3rd time I have heard of PM Barrow, having private meetings with these gangbangers. It sounds VERY SUSPICIOUS. The people of Belize needs his attention and respect. He should have addressed this issue on National TV and RADIO a long time ago, instead he constantly meets with the same people he knows are directly responsible for the heinous murders and crime sprees in Belize!!!!! I thought he represented a better change for Belize. I was so happy for him when he became PM. I can’t believe what I read sometimes, especially when I read about these “truces or peace talks”, as he calls it.it….Very dissappointed and very, very sad!!!!!!!!
What a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! This is the 3rd time I am reading about one of those “truces or peace talks” the PM had with gamg members. It is begginning to sound very suspicious!!! Instead of addressing the issue on National televison, the Radio or Newspapers, where the general public good and bad can hear and read what he has to say, he chooses to have private meetings with the gang bangers???? Doesn’t sounds good, doesn’t look good a’tall, a’tall, a’tall!!!!

This is such a shame and disgrance to the hard working community, when we have our elected government people, whom we placed there to do the right things and try to fix our country, bargaining instead with some thugs and criminals. Are we now asking the criminals how to live, where to walk, and what we can do, come on don’t be ridiculous. Unless there are ties between our government ppl and said criminals. Hmm I still wonder about that famous drug plane that landed south, are the gangs hired person(guns) for certain ppl in high ranking offices? Anyways we should build a new prison and send all of them all there, and once in throw away the keys. We the Belizean people and getting ENOUGH government.

I may not agree with PM Barrow’s method in certain issues and concerns in Belize but, he is a qualified, educated man who could not have reached the position as PM, unless he was QUALIFIED….And the majority of Belizean felt the same way because he was voted in as the Prime Minister of Belize!!!! What he does with the qualifications and power he has obtained, is ANOTHER STORY….
