George Cadle Price
The Right Hon. George Price led the nationalist movement and the country to self-government and then to Independence on September 21st, 1981. He is considered the Father of the Nation and National Hero and is the Leader Emeritus of the People’s United Party. His life was dedicated to service to country.

MY CONDOLENCES TO THE HON. GEORGE PRICE . HIS JOUNEY HERE ON EARTH IS DONE BUT HIS LEGACY LIVES FOREVER. HIS LEGACY WILL BE PASSED ON FROM GENEREATION TO GENERATION. Rest in Peace Honorable George C. Price, Belize’s only true leader. Mr. Price was a man of great character, charisma and leadership. I remember him fondly as a child in Monkey River when he used to sit, eat and talk with my aunt Minda Vansen in her home. He always had time to talk with us, the children and he always visited the school and give us a day off!!! I tell my children stories of him especially when he visited the school. They have never met him but they know him as much as i do. A true gentleman, a great lost to our country. My condolences to his family.
Mr. Price was a great man.I grew up in a family where he was talked of with very high respect and integrity. I was told by my father that he even came to my house once. I personally admired him a lot. Let his legacy live on. Rest in peace Mr. Price. We love u
PRESS RELEASE
The Belize Student Association of Jamaica, UWI in collaboration with the Anglican, Baptist, Catholic and Methodist Church would like to express its deepest condolences to the Price family and to all Belizeans. To show our support at this time we have organized a Service of Remembrance for the late Hon. George Cadle Price on Monday the 26th September. Invited to share in this occasion are Belizean students along with the Consular General of Belize to Jamaica. An open invitation has been extended to the wider Jamaican community to participate in this memorial tribute to the father of the Belizean nation.
Presiding at the service will be an all Belizean clergy, which include: Barry White of the Anglican Church, Pastor Shaw of the Baptist Church, Fr. Panton of the Catholic Church and Rev. Benguche of the Methodist Church. We assure you that his memory will live on, because Mr. Price not only participated in history, he made history. May his soul Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory!
May he rest in peace. For a true leader for a true hero for a true father of the nation. I may have not known him personally but my grandparents knew him, they used to tell stories about him. That he knew everyone’s name he had met, I was thought it was impossible to remember so much people. But to a great human being like the Rt. Hon George Price it was possible. The nation of Belize is a better place today because of the selfless efforts of Hon. George Cadle Price. His flesh and heart may fail, but Mr. Price’s contribution to nationhood will forever be etched in the history of Belize.

My sincere condolences to the family of The Right Honorable Mr. George Cadle Price “Father of Belize”–such a deserving honor for a gentleman who dedicated his life to the service of his country. I left Belize in 1961 but have always remembered his most gracious greeting as we met on the streets of Belize. I wish I had the privilege to have known him–especially that I learned later that he is on the Burn family tree. I will remember him proudly. Well done, Sir. Rest in peace!

Along with the numerous offerings of condolences above, I certainly cannot replicate anything that has not already been said. However, I’d like to share just a few notable memories that I hold of this dear gentleman, leader, scholar, example and above all, Father of our Nation.
As a child I so frequently heard his voice echo as he entered our yard on Freetown Road, came through the back gate and up the stairs to greet the family. “Miss Elliott, Miss Elliot,” his voice would reverberate to announce his arrival to my mom. In a word, that memory speaks of humility and a leader who was always willing to reach down to the grass roots.
A similar memory that further exemplifies his humility is etched on my mind. On a trip I once took with Channel Five as we were filming a documentary in rural Belize, we came across the Prime Minister and his driver in a field that had a gate to gain entry to the premises. The Prime Minister (not his driver, or a “bodyguard”) got out of his blue Jeep, opened the gate and waited for the driver to pass through before getting back in, greeting us and heading on his way. Wow, I thought. What a leader by example!! One who hastened to serve rather than being served. Just like Christ said.
One last anecdote. My mom’s husband once related an incident that had occurred shortly after hurricane Hattie amidst the relief efforts. He stated that he and a few others had been assisting in the clean up and happened to “fall into” an opportunity to avail themselves of some of the food items that had come in to distribute to those in need. Thinking they would be doing a service to the Leader, they took a portion of those items and brought them to him for his personal consumption. They were both humbled and ashamed when the honorable Prime Minister (Party Leader at the time) chided them for having even considered such a thing—-to take from folk that were in need. He refused the items and had them returned to the source for the distribution. It was from that moment, stated this gentleman, that he acquired the utmost respect for Mr. Price.
Rest in peace, dear Father of our nation! Belize has lost its greatest treasure. Who will now take the torch and run with it?

Many years ago, there was an abandoned kid on the streets of Belize. This kid had lost his parents and was being raised by a horrible, mean, sadistic step mother. So instead of going home at night time, the kid slept under a church with a bunch of wild dogs. George Price found out about this situation and quietly intervened. The kid began working at the Belize Times and commenced to earn a living. George Price arranged for the kid to be taught how to read and write. Today, the kid is all grown up, and the story has a successful and happy ending. George Price was a very noble and ethical leader. I will remember him always and lay accolades on his character at all times. During this Belizean time of grief, lets remember his greatness and what he did for our nation. I am confident that today he sits alongside his comrades in Heaven.
I met this man one time personally. He gave me a letter of recommendation back when I was looking for a job in Belize. He was such a wonderful man and humble and intelligent and honest. I saw him a few times after as he liked to walk to work in the mornings and wave at his people. Wonderful man and absolutely the Father of Our Nation. Wish Belize would have more like him…
