Gang truce fragile
Independence Day speeches 2011 took on a different tone. The Minister of Tourism, the mayor of Belmopan, the Leader of the Opposition and the Prime Minister punctuated their speeches with tributes to the Right Honorable George Price, the national hero who took the country to independence and whose vision gave birth to the new capital. We’ll have more on that later but we go first an excerpt of a statement made by the Prime Minister in respect of a gang truce. The PM rushed back to Belize from the installation of the new president of the Caribbean Court of Justice in St Kitts and Nevis on September fourth to meet with the gangs. A pact was worked out; it was called a historic truce.
Dean Barrow
“As we strive to realize this vision of our Belize, one of the greatest impediments is the spiraling cycle of urban violence that is afflicting especially Belize City. Lord knows that we have tried to address this. I looked recently at the figures and saw that around a million and a half dollars more than was budgeted has already been disbursed on security operations. And the fiscal year is not even half gone. Government’s determination to spend whatever and do whatever has been matched by the personal time and thought and worry that I have invested in this problem. That is why I conceived it my duty to meet with gang leaders as part of the effort to stanch the flow, stop the hemorrhaging of Belizean blood. A truce was agreed and there has been no gang-related murder since. But as events on Monday demonstrated, the state of play remains fragile; and the work that has to be done to ensure that things don’t again fall apart, is enormous. We move ahead resolutely, though, conscious that the need to overcome once and for all this phenomenon of crime and violence is perhaps our greatest immediate challenge.”

the current government, and i mean all of it, is very uncapable and incompetent to deal with the current situation. ‘these gang peoploe, they don’t think like us. you touch one of them, they will put your whole family in the morgue. you get what i am saying? you cannot be negotiating with killers and terrorists. by doing that, you are already subdueing, surrendering to their authority. last time i checked, the government and the polivce were supposed to have the authority, not some crazy gang king. I urge the government to take action and be the true leaders of this country. ‘if you don’t have what it takes, at least think of it this way:
I HAVE NO IDEA ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS……. LET ME THINK…… WHAT WOULD GEORGE PRICE DO???? There you have your answer. By the way may he rest in peace… he is the best prime minister Belize has ever had… and maybe the best we will ever be..
The crime situation is a big problem that we have to face in Belize but when compared to the situation in countries like what Columbia faced some years ago where the drug lords had the entire country at ransom our situation in Belize could be considered minuscule. They wiped out police, ministers, chief justice, got rid of court files or killed anyone who got in their way and they had real money to back them up. The true leaders who wanted to take back their country, didn’t make any truce with these criminals. What they had to do was to find the leader who was Escobar and his entourage and eliminate them. This is how it is done. You don’t negotiate with criminals unless you are one. Yes, Columbia still has to deal with the Cali Cartel but the killing of civilians has almost come to an end. For our leader to be begging these idiots who call themselves gang leaders is utmost ridiculous and speaks a lot about the person that is leading our nation. These gang leaders are the ones that are sending young boys on the street to break into homes, hold up Chinese businessmen and gas stations yet our Prime Minister has the audacity to sit down and have meetings with them? Why, because he has no clue how to deal with the situation at hand.
We need SOMEONE FROM THE OUTSIDE to CLEAN UP THIS PROBLEM.
BELIZEAN POLITICIANS ARE TOO CONNECTED TO THE GANGS….it’s not unusual!!!

No Truth In the World
I remember a song that Lucky Dube sung at a concert, Truth in the World, but before the song he gave a speech. He spoke about we the people blaming others for the violence and crime of the country, but we are the ones directly affected by these issues. We are the ones that are directly connected to these things. He said, it is time to stop blaming the government for things that they are not doing and take responsibility to ourselves. We should appreciate what the govenment is trying to do instead of going political and blaming our own fellow belizeans. We all know who Lucky was and we all know that he was a person of truth and he died standing up for it. Only political fools turn to each other instead of uniting. Mr. PM continue to do you best to bring peace and unity to our Country.
Love Always
PM can continue meeting with these DOGS and negotiate with them. He is an @@@$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
