Notes of condolences flow in about Father of the Nation
Since the death of the Right Honorable George Cadle Price expressions of sympathy from his family and friends at home and abroad have been overwhelming. On Thursday former Jamaican Prime Minister P.J. Patterson shared his recollection of the late Father of the Nation. The OAS Assistant Secretary General, Albert Ramdin, said that “his ideals still hold strong for the Americas as leaders strive to create stability and peace.” Today several other organizations including the Belize Chinese Association, the Belize City Council and the Belize Service Station Dealers Association issued condolences to the family of Price as well as the People’s United Party which he co-founded in 1951. The Chinese Association says “his lifetime zeal will never be matched or surpassed. This giant of a man, who gave us our identity as a nation, always epitomized Belize as peaceful and democratic.” Meanwhile, the Belize Service Station Dealers Association has announced that it will be closed between the hours of eight a.m. and two p.m. on Monday, in observance of the national holiday, for the state funeral of Belize’s first prime minister.
