9th Amendment Consultation Road Show moves to Cayo

It went under the radar due to the passing and state funeral of the Right Honorable George Price. But the consultations on the Ninth amendment resume this evening in San Ignacio at the Novelo’s Convention Centre. San Ignacio is considered a political hotbed so it is expected that the forum will be drawn along sharp party lines by militant supporters. Even as the consultations enter its last phase, passage of the Ninth appears to be imminent. On Independence Day, the Prime Minister said “we expect that the continuing public consultations may well spotlight other required changes. But the principal objective of safeguarding in a constitutionally unassailable manner our ownership of light, water and telephone, is non-negotiable. What is now widely acknowledged to be part of the Belizean patrimony; cannot and will not be bargained away.”  The public, however, will get an opportunity for an independent hearing. We note that an expert from the UWI will present his own views on the Ninth this coming Friday. Professor Hamid Ghany’s views will be presented at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall.

  2. Chris says:

Musa neva consult we b4 he give UHS 30Mil plus many mo thing like accommodation agreement which only he and his AG knew about. So whetehr this 9th good or bad atleast GoB is not doing this 9th in a secretive manner. I say this is democracy at work Belize at 30!!!!!!!!!! PS I am sure late Mr. Price privately agreed that the 9th is a good thing 4 belize. But bcos his party under Briceno’s leadership is vehemently against it Mr Price kept his mouth closed. I wish some one could make a really valid point to convince me why the 9th is bad. bcoz really it doesnt help me make up my mind if the opposition opposes the 9th just bcos it is a UDP thing and not bcos it is an honestly bad thing

  3. BELIZE first. says:

its nearly 4 years that dean barrow has BTL under his administration and the price for calls hasn’t gone down so the government is just USING us the people for his own enrichment, why? because we no benefit at all from BTL,BEL,BWS, we still have to pay the high cost of it,when he dean barrow promised to bring down the cost of living no matta what!!!!!!, HE DA LONE LIES,and he want to use us againg like ‘BAITS”… CARNADAS, for his cronies and his family enrichment,we NO BLIND MR BARROW. U LIAD.

  4. ali says:

dean barrow needs to follow the example of what the Rt.Hon.George Price was, he was a true leader, very humble , dean barrow said it that there will never be a PM like Hon.George C Price, and its true ,also its true that there will never be a failed PM like himself too, where are the 5,000 new jobs that he promised, better health care for all… he cancel NHI, where is the lower cost of living he promised ‘NO MATTA WHAT”, better education for all, more scholarships, better infastracture, all our country is a mess mr. barrow, only lois young barrow,ur family and cronies are getting richer everyday, Belizeans are not blind, its time for u to GOOOOOOOO, U HAVE FAILED US.

  5. Elgin Martinez says:

Dean Barrow has failed the Belizean people in every aspect.

  6. Steve says:

@Cris. Musa did not consult, that’s why he was booted out. I can’t see democracy at work @ 30 with these consultations going on when people against are deprived of voicing their opinions, so the participation of free-thinking Belizeans is absent in these last consultations. In short the consultations are merely a MOCKERY of democracy. I wonder why cris turns a blind eye to reality?–just ask the fair-minded Belizeans about the insulting, arrogant and chancy behavior of Patrick and Saldivar. They behave like insane officials! Intelligent Belizeans should give them what they deserve come election 2013 for disrespecting the people.
Chris(is) is lost in his ballooned UDP world. Can’t you see that the majority who are opposing are not UDP? If you oppose that doesn’t mean you are a PUP, but an open-minded Belizean who will critically think and call a spade a spade. Meanwhile one can safely say that those who are in favor of the 9th are UDP paid lackeys–they stand with their party T-shirt booing people who are not in the same line of thinking. Mr. Cris, A spade is a spade, but despotism is not democracy! The consultations are a farse; you are calling it democracy for your convenience. Barrow would have pass it into law with or without consultations. Now he will have the honor to say: ” the consultations………..” You are right when you say that your gov’t is not doing this in a secretive manner but just like Musa or worst he’s taking us for fools, taking us for a ride.

  7. ramon says:

correction channel 5 cayo didnt say yes it was the ministry of agric, elvin penner ,erwin contreras and the mayors that said yes to the 9th. and by the why it was not a consultation ,it was a UDP consultation

  8. Liberty and Freedom says:

Has anyone looked up the word patrimony? An endowment or estate belonging to an institution.
Further defined as the GOB is the institution that owns the estate (the country) Look up National patrimony “the store of wealth or accumulated reserves of a national economy”. Again, who controls the wealth? The GOB or the citizens?
Wake up Belizeans! Your rights are being diminished one at a time. Barrow says the 9th Amendment will be approved. He has taken his campaign to the streets so he can convince everyone that he gave everyone a chance to voice their opinions. Everyone knows how the campaigning system works. We all know, but are afraid to say anything for fear of reprisals.
The same thing happened in Germany in the 1930’s. You will hear the words “social justice” – it is government redistribution of wealth. The wealth that the government collects from the people and by nationalizing industries. NEWS 5 has a free forum to voice your opinion in confidence. What if the GOB nationalizes TV?
