Pseudo ephedrine case in Court
Back in 2008, customs officers Karl Augustine, Aruny Perez and Michael McKenzie, were jointly charged with forgery following the disappearance of a shipping container loaded with pseudo ephedrine tablets and consigned to Reimer’s Feed Mill. The trio is accused of falsifying a charge note as well as other documents required for the release of a shipping vessel from the port of entry.
The three have been on trial since Friday before Justice Adolph Lucas. This morning Harry Plett, proprietor of Reimer’s Feed Mill, testified that as manager of the company he did not import the container. On September eighth, 2008 Plett was informed by a shipping clerk at Marina Services that a container listed under his company’s name had arrived at the port. Plett further noted that, along with his father Denver Plett, they met with customs officials to inquire about the container. During that meeting documents relating to a bill of laden as well as a port release indicating that Reimer’s Feed Mill was the importer of the container were disclosed.
Since the incident, the whereabouts of the container has come into question and Plett testified that he did not process any paperwork for its release and therefore does not know where it is. The trial which was adjourned until Friday has seen a total of eleven witnesses take the stand. The accused men are being represented by Attorneys Carlo Mason, Ellis Arnold and Michael Peyrefitte.
