Duke Pollard, Temporary Justice of Appeal

There’s a new face on the bench at the Court of Appeal. He is Guyanese Professor Duke Pollard who was today sworn in by Governor General, Sir Colville Young, as a temporary justice of appeal. Professor Pollard’s CV includes a five year tenure as a judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice from 2005 to 2010. He was then appointed as a Professor of Law at the University of Guyana; a position that he still holds. The new justice is also a member of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, the American Society of International Law as well as the Caribbean Association of Law and Court Administration. His swearing in at the Belize House in Belmopan was witnessed by the Registrar General, Velda Flowers. According to a release from the Press Office, the Court of Appeal session started today and is expected to last until October twenty-eighth. There are seven civil cases and seven criminal cases on the court calendar.
