P.U.P. Eastern Caucus considers options for Leader

The dust is beginning to settle following the resignation of John Briceño last Friday as the leader of the People’s United Party that led to the ascension of Mark Espat, as the interim leader. The bid for leadership of Belize Rural North standard Bearer, Arthur Saldivar, has failed to ignite any excitement or following within the ranks of the P.U.P.  Our reports are that one or two standard bearers are supposedly considering his candidacy.  Other standard bearers tell News Five that it reflects poorly on the state of the P.U.P. that an untested, unproven political novice could offer himself for leadership at such a critical juncture in the party’s history. In the meantime, P.U.P. Eastern Caucus chaired by Anthony Mahler, comprising the ten Belize City divisions as well as Belize Rural North, South and Central is scheduled to meet this evening to take a position on the leadership. Indications are that most are supportive of Espat who already has the support of the southern and western caucuses. Saldivar, who is part of the caucus, will absent himself from the meeting. The party has a deadline of November sixth to elect a new leader. The northern caucus which also includes Belize Rural South will meet this Saturday by which time the former party leader Briceño will have returned to Belize from Mexico where he is getting medical attention.

The PUP was the last bunch that got us where we are today so don’t wave your flag just yet Mr or Ms Belizean Says!

What is really sad is this current bunch ain’t no better and worse yet there is no where else to turn because we are a two party system.

Now this current government is making laws that can keep them in power for ever. All they have to do is pass the law they need to keep them there and no court can review it befr it becomes law. No referandom need either! Don’t let them play with your fears and have you support BS laws!

  5. hard woking Belizean says:

PUP needs to get their act together! Time is not waiting on us….remember the words of our greatest leader, the Right Hon. George Cadle Price, “FORWARD EVER, BACKWARD NEVER”!! We need to come together and as party supporter, I hope the Hon. John Briceno does not betray the party by stepping down as the Central Area Rep. at the last moment, thereby crippling the party even more! The executive needs to deal with this situation most urgently and follow in the footsteps of Mr. George Price to get the party back on track!!

  6. Retired CEO says:

Apparently upon the death of the Rt. Hon. George Price, the PUP also died. RIP PUP? its’ time for a new begining!!!! Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of our beloved Country of Belize. Step up to the challenge and show some love for Belize!!! PUP done gone away. Don’t shed a tear for her, stand-up for the love of Belize.

I remember hearing the same thing about Obama and he is now the presidednt of the USA. Beside, we are looking for someone fresh, with innovative ideas and no cross to bear for those who have already failed us. Go for it Saldivar!
