Tourist Souvenir is marijuana and fine

A cruise ship tourist was busted with marijuana he allegedly bought after he arrived in the old capital. Twenty-two year old Tech Support employee, Irvin Ashante Conner, a US Virgin Islands national, was busted with one point two grams of marijuana when he was searched by police at the Belize Tourist Village. Around three this evening Conner appeared before Magistrate Roberto Ordonez to answer to the charge of possession of a controlled drug. He pleaded guilty to the offense and was slapped with a fine of two hundred and fifty dollars, which he was ordered to pay forthwith or in default two months imprisonment. Connor, who was unable to get cash from the ATM, had to pawn a piece of jewelry valued at almost a thousand dollars for just two hundred and sixty dollars to pay for bail. However, due to the hold up in paying bail, Conner was unable to board ship and now needs to secure his own passage back home.

Could it be that he was spotted buying drugs? Could it be that he behaved in a suspicious manner when he saw the cops? coule it be that he smelled like weed? Could it be that he exposed his weed by accident and was busted?…I can think of many other reasons he was searched!
The first two comments are kind of ignorant because the flip side to this comment suggests that he had drugs on him because he was not white. Does it really matter the reason he was searched? If he did not buy drugs and/or have drugs on him he would be on his cruise and this search story would not be news worthy!
So many cruise ship tourists wander around and spend nothing locally… at least this guy donated $250 to GOB, plus $750 at the pawn shop, not to mention the $20 he spent on weed. We need more cruise ship tourists like this guy… he’s good for the economy!
@ ceo… this guy just wanted to smoke some weed, it doesn’t matter what race he was, he is over 21, therefore he should not have been busted. belize is so dependent on foriegn aid; that is why weed is still illegal. here in the US, so many states have legalize weed, the reason is because weed does not have the cascading effect that other hard drugs are notorious for. when you look at alcohol, and tobacco, these two substance are responsible for more deaths than marijuana. the belize police department should spend it’s effort solving more pressing issues i.e.,muders, rapes, and corruption.

Smoking weed makes you Stupid man. Why do you think he got busted. Not because he is smart. Look at your employees who smoke weed. Stupid people. That is why the workforce in Belize is so bad. Too many people smoke weed and think they are smart but actually the weed makes them so stupid they think they are smart.
A tourist get caught with some weed and can’t even get back on the ship that brought him to the Jewel and yet we’ve got a foreigner that raped three minors up north walking around.
