Belizeans for Justice BBQ for rape victim

While the mother turns to the authorities for assistance, help is on the way from another source. Belizeans for Justice is taking up the cause for the child. According to founding member, Yolanda Schakron, they are hosting a barbecue this Saturday morning at Red House in Belize City in order to raise funds to assist the girl.

“We’re joining with some other people this weekend to have a barbecue, a fundraiser for the young girl who was raped. We’re trying to raise funds for her to get counseling and for some other doctor bills that have come up.”

“The mother says that her child wants to go back to school but not the same one that she is in now. Will some of the funds be used to seek come other educational facility?”

“Yes, we’re thinking about that; we’re thinking of getting her into another institution. Another institution where there are less children where she can be more taken care of because she is exhibiting some signs of post traumatic stress right now.  She’s four years old, she’s scared, she doesn’t really know what. We are just trying to help her get back her life. This girl has been scarred for life.”

“The mother also mentioned that she is having issues with getting the police to do a report; the D.P.P. hasn’t received any statement from the child. Are you also helping to counsel her in the ways to try to get this done?”

“Well yes, I have been trying to help her. We got a lawyer for her to help her, to walk her through the process. In Belize it seems like justice has disappeared. It is really sad when we are not looking out for our children who are the future. I have told her not to give up, we will pursue this case. Belizeans for Justice will be there to help her along the way.”

One bit of information on Schakron; she did not wish to comment on the withdrawal of her name as a mayoral candidate for the opposition.
