More on the Whylie Report

The Whylie Report on the investigation into the forty-two weapons that were stolen from the Belize Defence Force reveals a lack of security at the B.D.F. headquarters. The bulk store was not checked for twelve days in breach of established procedure. That is so because of changes in schedule and the person who was responsible for the checks claimed he was too busy. The facility itself was poorly lit and easy to break into. And though there is enough blame to throw at the ranks of the B.D.F., the recommendations include suspensions of three: Technical Quarter Master, Sergeant Roy Flores, Force Field Officer Captain Damain Amaya and the Deputy Commandant of the Force, Javier Castellanos. News Five attempted to reach Brigadier General Dario Tapia to confirm if the suspensions were implemented or not. Tapia was away when the burglary was reported and was unavailable for comment. News Five also spoke to C.E.O. of the Ministry of Defence Allen Whylie, the report’s namesake, but he declined comment.

Defence of our security is a damn serious business — it’s our life or death. We CANNOT TOLERATE INCOMPETENCE OR CORRUPTION IN THIS AREA.

Heads must roll at a high level — what fools run an army where deadly weapons sit without 24/7 security?

  2. Charlie Price says:

The Whylie Report will end up on the shelf with all the others… WITH NOTHING BEING DONE.

  3. time flies says:

why isnt the general on the list to be fired or suspended. its his leadership or rather lack of,has the bdf in this mess. he does not inspire fittness or smarts, just a over weight man who drives around in F-350 and makes no attempt to effectively run the army. serving self interest. and the ministry should really take a look at there top officers. there is many seeds of coruption planted in that group. they system has not broken down, it has crash and burned.

  4. Elgin Martinez says:

What Military experience does Allen Whylie have to hold such position?

  5. ex-bdf says:

Who will be to blame if and whenever people are murdered with one of the stolen weapons??? Its only a matter of time before that happens and it won’t be only a few; this is really serious matter that is only being brushed aside. What about Perdomo, Dean……….News last night says a brand new uniform was confiscated by GSU, what else will they be selling????

  6. Belize says:

It is a common thing in Belize to see Military Officers selling military equipment such as boots, attires, pots, pans, food, bullets to mention a few. It should be a criminal offence to sell, purchase or to have on ones possesion any equipement which is for the military. Also Belize needs to set a list of items as prohibted unless your are a member of the military force.. and get rid of the heads of the army… its obvious they dont know what they are doing.. what if we would have had there the military equipment being sent to belize by the USA would that have been a disaster..

  7. lolnews says:

Since BATSUB has been mothballed, there have been many burglaries at the camp. It’s a crying shame that some of our own BDF don’t respect their camp when everything has been turned over to them. It’s ours now, let’s conduct ourselves properly for god sake!

  8. Earl Grey says:

The USA is watching this closely…VERY CLOSELY.

  9. Elgin Martinez says:

lolnews:What about the Governments responsibility to provide the BDF with the proper logistics to be more efficient?

  10. general says:

if the bdf cannot guard and protect one little building on the main army base compound. how can they protect 8,867 square miles.

no wonder we are black listed in the international eyes. we lack proper leadership in our country. from the PM down the line. even our judges are some piece of “tihs” they are the ones that are causing havoc in our society.

they are letting go of too many murderers and rapist at the end of the day they get kill. good justice is served but alot of the time innoncent people are caught in the cross fire…….

fire the judges them too and let us take over the system. cause the current system is not working any at all….

  11. white angel says:
