Who will be the House Opposition leader?
While Henry Usher says there will be a leader of the opposition in the House on Friday, the situation is as follows. Just before Mark Espat announced he would not contest the leadership, John Briceño officially wrote to the Governor General formally demitting office as opposition leader. The procedure is for the Governor General to appoint the parliamentarian that commands the most support among his colleagues. Now, the P.U.P. has six members in the House and they are deeply divided. From what we know, there has been an inquiry on former Prime Minister Said Musa by the Solicitor General. Musa told News Five that while he is not inclined, he would take on that role on Friday, if the other parliamentarians agreed. But there are three parliamentarians who say they would not support, they being Mark, Cordel and John. While that plays out, we checked the constitution. Section forty-seven (two) says that the G.G. shall appoint the member of the House of Representatives who appears to him most likely to command the support of a majority of the members of the Opposition in the House. However, according to section forty-seven (five), if it appears to the G.G. that no member of the House can command the support of the Opposition in the House, then the G.G. can remove the Leader of the Opposition. In this case since Briceño has resigned as Leader of the Opposition, the G.G. can simply not appoint any leader of the Opposition. We are not there yet, because politics, as they say, is the art of the impossible. We also note that the standard parliamentary caucus that precedes House meetings was aborted today. A quick check suggested a number of M.P.s would have absented themselves.
Why do these guys keep playing games. They were elected to serve the people, not to play games. SHM!
come on pup, stop playing! we need a leader and the time is now! there needs to be somebody representing us tommorow and urgently!!! if it is musa let him come!!!! we are to fight not with each other but to detroy the udp government and their bunch of monkey`s heading to belmopan tommorow!!
Its so sad & disappointing to see how the stronghold party that our late Nat’l Hero, the Right Hon. George Price put together with so much love, hardwork & dedication is crumbling down before our eyes!! It seems we have no leaders with the balls to lead & unite our Party!! Ask yourselves if when the Right Hon. Price started the PUP if he just handed a billion dollars in a silver platter and hence built this once great party? Definitely not, It was hardwork, justice, dedication & his love for the people & for our beloved country Belize which gave him the strength & will to make the PUP the stronghold it once was. Stop the childish plays PUP Exec. & members & leaders….this ain’t time for your tantrums!! Our country is in chaos & we need to climb out of this hell hole! Those who want to abandon ship go ahead….the PUP will not sink! Tomorrow Barrow & his gang will try to shove the 9th amendment down our throats while we are being distracted with these child plays from our own wanna bee leaders and members!! Focus on the reality people! If needs be all Belizeans must head to Belmopan tomorrow and reject the 9th amendment proposal or we best be prepared for a Communist country Belize!!
Latinos del norte, you sound like a racist fool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
to pride! you are a big fool!!! and silly when i say monkey i mean that those people only make noise and repeat what they are told to and jump and shout for anything being said and done by dean. anyways if you have low self esteem when it comes to colour thats your problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pride: I agree with you I.ve said this before and everybody jump down my throat about me being racist, as a child my neighbour was latino and I had to put up with being called the “N” word. These people are racist, I don’t care what anybody say, I will stick to my belief. How can you look at a human being and call him a monkey, we are humans and God made us all, we did not have a choice to pick what we want to be. They laugh and talk with you, but their true feelings are exactly racist. Even here in america the mexicans don’t like blacks.
As for hard working belizeans: PUP or UDP they are all a bunch of corrupted politicians. We need new blood in the system. Remember who started this corruption “Musa” and his regime how easily we forget. Remember the gravy train.
If the Opposition has a $100 million, every single soul would want to be the leader. Money talk & b s walk.
