Tourists gets 3 years for drug trafficking

Paul Smith

The court dealt a heavy blow to British Tourist, twenty-seven year old Paul Smith, a resident of New Castle, England.  Smith was charged with a single count of drug trafficking this morning in the court of Magistrate Albert Hoare. He pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking, but guilty to the lesser charge of possession of a controlled drug for a small quantity of weed. The plea, however, was rejected and instead of facing a trial, Smith decided to plead guilty to the original charge of drug trafficking. The magistrate then imposed the mandatory fine of ten thousand dollars, which he had to pay forthwith since he is not a Belizean. Smith was unable to pay the fine and tonight he is behind bars at the Central Prison on a three year sentence.  On Wednesday, Doulas Edward Magnuson, a trucker of Wisconsin, USA was charged with possession of a control drugs when he was busted in possession of marijuana at the Tourism Village on a one day visit to Belize. Before that, on October eighteenth, twenty-two year old Tech Support employee, Irvin Ashante Conner, of the US Virgin Islands was also busted with marijuana at the Tourist Village terminal. Conner ended up pawning a one thousand dollar gold chain to pay a two hundred and fifty dollar fine. There is also the case of Mexican national twenty-eight year old Fernando Jonathan Sanchez Ramirez, who was busted at the Tourism Village with both cocaine and cannabis. He wanted to plead guilty only to possession but the DPP also rejected his guilty plea and is proceeding to trial for drug trafficking. He is presently on remand at the Belize Central Prison.

Good for him, because of him and many more like him there is so much deaths in the world.
Just ask …what would happen if no one, NO ONE AT ALL did drugs in the world?
Drug lords would be happy to go clean drains to earn a loaf.

  2. Earl Grey says:

We need to STOP HARASSMENT PEOPLE FOR A LITTLE WEED.
IT’S ONE OF THOSE TRESS THAT GOD GAVE US… it’s a natural herb.

DON’T WE HAVE MORE SERIOUS CRIMES LIKE MURDER TO KEEP THE COPS BUSY.

  3. Juan says:

Se tiene que probar ante un juez que realmente es culpable. Quizás fue una trampa como en la película esta famosa donde engañan a unas chicas y les meten droga en la maleta. Quien sabe, amanecerá y veremos.

How much weed did they find on this man? If it was not above a certain amount, was it parceled off why they catigorised it as trafficing? Before you all condemn me as upholding drug use and distribution, let me say right off the bat that I don’t even smoke weed. Tried it but instead of enhancing my business, it killed the ‘fella’, so I left it lone.
Me, personally, I think the government should decriminalise weed. Find some way to regularise it’s use and distribution, levy a tax on it and stop wasting tax payers money prosecuting man fi wah likkle bit ah erb. Tobacco and liquor are just as damaging if not more harmful, yet we see they enjoy the full blessings of the establishment. I am not a doctor mind you… but my understanding is that weed does have some medicinal value in that it provides relief to cancer patients and it fights glucoma. Besides it would bring tremendous economic benefits as a cash crop. Oh… by the way, what does the Jewel have to lose? Is the entire country not already Black Listed by the Almighty Uncle Sam? The US state department does what is in their best interest, it’s about time Belize do the same. Find a way GoB to lead and be inovative and stop ‘di fallow’.

  5. Governor says:

  6. Shy says:

The tourists get charged but when in the world will the men who work by the village or who go around the village and target tourists n beg them to buy the stuff will ever be charged?

  7. MadDOG says:

funny ha i just think that these tourist are set up, i dont smoke weed, but let me tell you, someone at the village is selling these stuff, and the victim is sold out to cops and the cops want to be payed off and when the tourist doesnt have the moneypay them off they are taken to gail. for one roche these people are fined. court gat lots of crime pending and there they go making time to fit in these none sence . there are cases that take years and years, and come today come again tomm and that who they have the cases, and it goes on and ON,,, focus on bigger things, why not ask the police how they get intel. start investigatin these things indept.

  8. CEO says:

Early Grey what about people not committing these crimes in the first place? Think this would work?

Murder is bad and the guilty should be punished but small crimes is what breaths larger crimes. Small crimes also brings down a country; so yes let him spend the time or pay the fine!

Let’s hope the right cops will get promoted and things will start changing.
