Gloria Serrano brings home 2 gold and 1 bronze
But amidst the chaos in the B.A.A.A, there is some good news, the lone athlete, fifteen year old Gloria Serrano, to represent Belize at the Central American Junior A and Infant C Games, returned as a triple medalist. Serrano, who is recognized as a consistent athlete by the B.A.A, was able to make the trip through sponsorship. And although the young student travelled alone, without a coach, teammates, and fans, she survived the trip and has brought home two gold and a bronze medal.

“Well the competition really, it was good, it was quite easy I should say. But it was boring because it was only me you know. To represent Belize it was an honorable moment for me you know.”
Andrea Polanco
“Okay, so tell us about the different disciplines that you participated in?”
“I participated in the shot put event, first thing Friday morning and I came in first with twelve-forty-three and on Saturday at four thirty I participated in the Javelin, which I didn’t do too good in, I came in third for that event with twenty-four-thirty-five. And on Sunday in the morning at seven-thirty I participated in the discus event and I did quite well in that event. I came in first and I had a throw with thirty-one-twenty-eight which was forty centimeters shy away from the Central American Record for this category.”
Andrea Polanco
“So Gloria I know that you travelled to Nicaragua on your own, tell us what was that like for you, because you travelled without a coach. Do you think that it sort of dampen your spirits?”
Gloria Serrano
“Yes, I will so because you know, it’s nothing like having your team-mates cheering for you and what’s not. But I understood the issues that are happening in Belize so I said you know, I just want to represent Belize to the fullest and to do well in whatever I went there to do.”
Serrano was able to finance her trip to the games through sponsorship obtained by Ian Gray. Serrano says that she will be participating in the upcoming Belize Nationals in Corozal next month.
