Home Invasion’s blade cuts deep into senior citizen

Gang related murders have decreased but not all city residents have been able to keep the peace. A blade was repeatedly thrust into the chest of a senior citizen while she should have been safely asleep in her bedroom. Why would someone stab sixty eight year old Caspula Westby? That’s what News Five Isani Cayetano tried to find out.

Isani Cayetano, Reporting

The brutal stabbing of sixty-eight year old Caspula Westby, who was fast asleep inside her bedroom in the wee hours of Sunday morning, is the latest incident in what has become a seemingly unchecked spate of home invasions.  According to Michael Westby, the elderly woman’s grandson, he returned to their Zericote Street residence sometime after midnight and was watching television in the living room for about an hour before turning in.  Little did he know that someone had tailed him moments earlier and was lurking on the veranda near the rear of the two-storey building.  Westby told News Five that he went to bed sometime after one o’clock but woke up an hour later to take a bath. That’s when he heard a faint groan coming from his grandmother’s bedroom.  Upon further inspection the young man discovered her lying in a pool of blood on the mattress.  The intruder gained access through a side window, carried out his plan, and exited an adjacent window under the cover of darkness.  When it was over, Caspula Westby had been stabbed multiple times and left for dead.  The assailant fled the scene leaving the bloody weapon behind.  The family says that as much as thirteen wounds were inflicted to various parts of her body.  Westby’s grandson strongly believes that he was the intended target of the vicious attack as he admitted to having an ongoing rivalry with a group of men from that area concerning a female acquaintance.  He is certain that the stalker was there to kill him but an error in identifying his bedroom resulted in his grandmother’s ordeal.  She has since been hospitalized and was set for release today; however, News Five was made to understand that Westby has taken a turn for the worse.
