Cowboy rides out of town free, but D.P.P. to appeal murder

Kevin “Cowboy” Alvarez

Kevin “Cowboy” Alvarez was in prison since the Murder of Orange Walk businessman, Hui Lin Chen on March thirteenth, 2009. Lin’s throat was slashed during what was believed to be a contracted hit. The alleged killer fled the scene and headed to a nearby river where he was surrounded by cops and attempted to shoot a path to freedom with two guns. When the smoke cleared, three police officers were injured and Cowboy was arrested. Well, tonight he is a free man because a no case submission was upheld in the Corozal Supreme Court. Attorney Kevin Arthurs made the submission on the argument that when the prosecution closed its case, none of the twenty-one witnesses were able to link Cowboy to the murder. Even the two main witnesses, Anna Gonzalez and Joaquin Castillo, who saw the suspect from a distance, could not give a positive identification. There was also a discrepancy in the testimony of the Scenes of Crime Personnel, who told the court that the suspected murder weapon, a knife, was retrieved from the scene and kept in a brown bag. However, the knife tendered into evidence at the courtroom was in a white box. Other items including shoes and a shirt were taken to court but none of it could be linked to Cowboy Alvarez. The no case submission was upheld but Cowboy’s ride to freedom was short-lived. As soon as he exited the courthouse, he was escorted back to the jailhouse since he still faces two charges of Attempted Murder against the cops that he allegedly shot. News Five contacted the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and found out that the DPP will appeal the Cowboy Alvarez case. In May of this year, Sergeant Manuel Hill, who was charged with abetment to murder, was also acquitted of the charge. Hill was accused of hiring Cowboy as hit man.

OK, so if you can’t make the murder rap stick, how does it get off on shooting and injuring three cops? Would that not be a separate charge?

The problem is systemic and like Soddom and Gamora it would be hard faught to find one honest cop in the force! The evidence was staged!

lawless..&. corrupted… nuff said. since when u kill someone and just get away with it.. … that is why people don’t invest in Belize.. the law is not properly enforced… nd crime rates r high… in fact, many are migrating out of this beautiful country. somethings need to be done… nd i think the gov shud be more concern abt the social issues instead of the ‘money’ part… everything seems to be about money nd benefits… that is not how it is supposed to be…
