Ibrahim Smith committed to stand trial for dead of 16 year old
While Kaycia Fuller has been convicted, the trial against eighteen year old Ibrahim Smith is set to begin. Smith allegedly shot sixteen year old Shenelle Reyes while playing with a sixteen gauge shotgun on November sixteenth 2010. Due to the circumstances surrounding the tragic fatality, he was charged with Manslaughter and not murder. At the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry today, Smith was committed to stand trial in the January session of the Supreme Court. He was offered bail in the sum of five thousand dollars, which he met. The shooting occurred at Reyes’ Sibun Street Home, when Smith, a regular visitor, was playing the firearm, despite warnings. The gun went off and Reyes was shot on the chest; she died soon after inside her house. After the incident, Smith allegedly fled and tried to hide the gun, but it was retrieved by police. The owner of the shotgun, Steve Young, visited the police station and identified the weapon as his. Young presented his license and reported that it was stolen from his house during a burglary. Smith was then charged with Possession of a Prohibited Firearm and Handling Stolen Goods.
