B.T.L. employee spared prison time after battering his girlfriend

Bernard Bent

He spent fifteen days behind bars at the Belize Central Prison, but today, B.T.L. employee, forty-five year old Bernard Bent was spared from doing more jail time. Bent was remanded on December first when he pleaded guilty to a charge of grievous harm after he physically abused his girlfriend, twenty-six year old Kendra Henkis on February twentieth. Henkis suffered a broken right cheek bone and lost three teeth as a result of the misunderstanding. Today Bent was represented by Attorney Dickie Bradley who told the court that he is the sole provider of his family and will not be able to help them if he remains imprisoned. Bent was ordered to pay a compensation fee of three hundred dollars to Henkis. But Henkis told News Five that she’s not satisfied because she spent in excess of three hundred dollars, as matter of fact she is claiming more than three thousand dollars in dental expenses and recovery treatment. Henkis said that she will be filing a civil suit against Bent for damages she suffered.

He would be sleeping in a watery grave if ths was my sister or daughter. The system allows this sort of thing to happen by giving these people light sentences. There is an increase in the amount of women killed by men over the last few years in Belize. This needs to stop and only the justice system can put a stop to this by imposing strong, long and stiff prison sentences on offenders.
