This year, the government is providing forty thousand dollars to area representatives for what it calls a Christmas assistance program.  The PM said on Friday that the funds will be used to help select families during the Christmas season. Well, in the Mesopotamia division, a Christmas party was held on Saturday. It’s the yearly Christmas bram hosted by area rep, Michael Finnegan. The guest list included over one thousand kids. Outgoing Mayor Zenaida Moya, who is looking to inherit Mesopotamia and has been dubbed coordinator and spokesperson for Mesop, was involved in organizing the event and personally handed out the gifts on Saturday. She spoke to News Five about the annual occasion, which has been a fixture on the Christmas calendar for Mesop residents for over a decade.

“Today we have given out one thousand, seven hundred gifts to children in the Mesopotamia division. We also gave them their rice and beans, chicken and salad. The parents as well got their food as well. I think everybody has enjoyed themselves. Of course, this has been going on for over twelve years; every year the residents of the Mesopotamia division expect this particular Christmas party and I must say, Mr. Finnegan has always delivered. This year, I must say I played a greater role in terms of taking around tickets. The others years, I have helped to give out gifts and this year I got to take around the actual tickets for these children to come and get their food. But I must say today it has been a lot of work. We said four o’clock but people have been coming out here from way before four. As a matter of fact, by four o’clock we done give out hundreds of residents already but everybody have gone and they have gotten their full share of what they’re supposed to get.”
