Judge grants bail to man who stabbed wife

In another bail application, an Orange Walk man who brutally stabbed his wife during a domestic dispute is out on bail and his wife is in fear of her life. There were statements from witnesses, but in the view of Justice Hanomansingh, the prosecution did not demonstrate that the Crown had a case against thirty-six year old Felipe Wagner. Wagner was released on a ten thousand dollar bail on the conditions that he is to report to the Orange Walk Police Station every Friday and surrender all his travel documents. Since he was living with his wife, Martha Alicia Wagner, the prosecution objected to bail on the basis that he would interfere with the witnesses and he may try to harm the complainant again. But Felipe told the court that he would willingly move to his mother’s house in San Pablo Village. Statements from eyewitness, John Wagner and Martha’s daughter were also submitted; they gave accounts of several previous reports of threats and physical abuse that the victim suffered at the hands of her husband. A statement from Martha gave vivid details of the stabbing. She also recounted the persistent abuse that she suffered from early in her relationship with Felipe. Felipe, however, claims that he returned from the US on November sixteenth, but could not locate his wife and child. When he tracked her down, he found her in the arms of another man. According to Felipe, Martha became aggressive and refused to go home with him. That’s when he lost control and stabbed her. He was later charged with Attempted Murder. This afternoon, a frightened Martha, told News Five via phone of the constant abuse and that she is in fear of her life.

“He is a man who to be slanderous and violent. I have been suffering with this man since thirteen years ago when he broke one of my arms and I could not use my left arm for three months.  When I used to bring merchandise from Houston to Belize, I used to have to drive at night between two, three or four in the morning. I used to tell him that I couldn’t drive, I was too tired because the work was too heavy. The man is using me and I have maintained him for over eleven years. He doesn’t provide a penny for food or utility bills. On the last trip to the US in November, he sent me two texts and I have the copies saying that when he comes back he will kill me. I have the evidence and there is domestic violence that he has committed since thirteen years ago. When I was in the Karl Heusner, I was gravely ill; I lost so fourteen pints of blood and I was on the verge of dying as a result of the domestic violence because he assaulted me and as I have said, I have the threatening text messages that he sent from Houston. It is a great injustice that he got bail.  I am not comfortable because this man has also sent me an anonymous message to say that once he is out he will kill me and that he will send two men and that they will burn my house and my property.”

Martha went on to make other serious allegations against Felipe, which we cannot repeat. While an affidavit from Martha was presented, it was revealed in court today, that there is still no official police report from her since the incident on November sixteenth. Meanwhile, Felipe is due back in court on January nineteenth.
