If there was any intention to suppress information, then that could be counterproductive because Herrera’s attorney says the documents are being thoroughly reviewed.

“Presently we have a team going through the documents quantifying the values in terms of monies spent that went through the purchasing department of the KHMH in particular under the auspices of Mr. Carlos Perrera and we are looking at the inventory that is attached to the invoices to make a determination of the actually size of the scam that has taken place.  Basically what is outlined to us is that the items that were bought, whatever the quantities were, they were not fully received.  All those that were not received have a value and that value was identified in the monies spent and the appearance was given that those items were actually here which is a fraud.  So there’s a great fraud that was perpetrated with public funds.  What is most disturbing is that Minister Patrick Faber was put on notice about this and the Secretary General of the UDP, Philipa Bailey, was put on notice.  So we have high ranking members of the ruling party having a firm understanding of an ongoing corrupt practice and turning a blind eye to it.”

The KHMH sent out a release this afternoon. The hospital is more concerned that “stolen confidential material has been leaked to the media and in some instances the public” than over the allegations of corrupt practices. It is a story that we will continue to follow.
