Freetown Road business robbers caught

The unrelenting stream of armed robberies during the holiday season continued in the Old Capital this morning.   De He Li Store on Freetown Road became the latest target of a trio of thieves who stormed the premises as it was being opened for business sometime before eight o‘clock.  According to a police report, three men, namely: twenty-five year old Richard Wallace, eighteen year old Michael Wallace and twenty-eight year old Dwayne Saldano, all residents of Reggae Street, charged inside the building while proprietor De He Li was opening the grilled door for his wife to enter.  Once inside they proceeded to lock the shutters before relieving Li of a wristwatch and a nine-millimeter pistol.  A resident of the area was making a purchase at the time of the robbery.  He recounted the incident on the condition of anonymity.

“Well when I get out yah, they neva open yet. So when I look I see the vehicle di come because they usually go dah market in the morning. So they come with their vegetables and thing. So they parked and the man gone through the back and opened the backdoor and shub up the shutters and open the gate. Me and lee young bwai mi deh di stand up right there and he and his wife come in. I order the thing weh I mi wah buy—two troll a toilet paper and half a pack of independence. Immediately as I give the man the money, sudden one I noh know where the first man run in from and gone straight dah back and grab di lady dah ih neck. I still neva conscious that it was a robbery. When I look the next guy come right in; one got the gun to the lady head and the other di point pan he. So I broke away; I run almost knocking down the next one weh di come in. but when I run, the lee bwai run out too and haul down the shutters and I run and hail my wife cause I never had my phone on me and I tell ahn call 911 and dah so my sister-in-law call. And the mobile say they don’t know where De He Li is; they don’t know where Love FM is. I don’t know weh really happen to the police but after that they did respond quick when they found out dah weh paat noh.”

The robbers however, did not manage to get far.  Upon fleeing the crime scene they were apprehended by police on mobile patrol who, moments earlier, had been alerted to the incident.  A black Smith and Wesson nine-millimeter handgun as well as a matching magazine containing four live rounds and the stolen watch were recovered.  Dwayne Saldano, along with Richard and Michael Wallace have since been charged jointly for the crimes of kept unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as aggravated burglary.

Hopefully, the criminals will be punished. The judicial system in Belize is very poor because the laws are not properly enforced and nothing ever gets done that is why the criminals keep coming back. If they are shown that this behavior is unacceptable, then the rest be less motivated to try.

Is this really fun to other Belizeans?

Are you serious here? What u mean the police don’t know where the scene of a crime was? Talk about incompetence! Imagine calling 911 and expecting to get help from relavant authorities and all u get is a confused operator who doesn’t have the common knowledge to calmly ask for a street name or well known business like LOVE FM!!!!!! DUHHHHHHHHH… even I know where this incident took place and I live in California! Jeeeezazzzzz . Please fix this man because when i come back pah vacation and God forbid i get robbed, I’d want a 911 operator who knows his @$$ from his elbow or else I’m screwed!!

I dont understand what is the mentality behind “Warning shots” this tactic will get an innocent bystander shot one of these days. The belize police should train to shoot CENTER OF MASS when they are justified in shooting.

YOU NEVER HEAR THAT COPS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES SHOOT PEOPLE IN THE FOOT BECAUSE THEY WERE JUSTIFIED IN USING DEADLY FORCE…. OR WORSE YET SHOOT IN THE AIR PUTTING THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN DANGER…

A JOB WELL DONE…. but certainly need some fine tuning in their tactics.

Why Di He Li never shoot them so they could have been left to rot like the other scum last week.

The cops seem to be doing a better job catching these dam crooks. Let’s see if the prosecutors will step up their game and start getting more convictions?

Obviously the government needs to get a better numbering system and replace or place the names of streets so when emergency calls are made the cops can respond quicker. Callers seem to have to identify crime scenes by the name on the business instead of the street number.

  7. Earl Grey says:

Send them to …THE PRISON FARM…aka THE SUSTAINABLE REHABILITATION CENTER.

There THEY CAN EARN THEIR KEEP and CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY at NO COST TO TAXPAYERS.

They can GROW FOOD FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES, build desks and chairs FOR SCHOOLS and gov. offices.

Build the Prison Farm in Toledo…. there they can guard the boarder too AND help the local economy.
