Accused of robbing his friend at knifepoint
While one man was remanded for stealing from his brother, another is prison tonight for robbing his friend at knife point. The victim, fifty year old Lloyd Griffith says that on December twenty-eighth, he was playing dominoes with friends, including Henry Lauriano, who he has known for nine years. As Griffith was leaving after the game, Lauriano allegedly approached him and said that he had a knife. Griffith reported that Lauriano told him, “I know you have money, soh run it.” But he ignored the demand and Lauriano stabbed at him twice, injuring his hand, before he took the money from Griffith’s pocket. This morning, Lauriano appeared before Magistrate Roberto Ordonez and was arraigned for Robbery and Grievous Harm. The court prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that Griffith had to undergo surgery for his injuries. But Lauriano denied the allegations and told Magistrate Ordonez that Griffith’s injury was inflicted by a woman he had an altercation with earlier that day. Magistrate Ordonez denied bail and remanded him to the Belize Central Prison until February eighth. Before leaving the court, Lauriano asked to be escorted to his house to pick up his medication because he says he has a terminal illness. That request was granted.
