New bus regulations and increased entry fees at Mexican Border

There are new concerns tonight in the transport industry. The Ministry of Transport issued a release today saying that it is in contact with the Mexican Embassy following the circulation of letter regarding new regulations for Belizean buses crossing the northern border. The Mexicans have indicated that they want to put in place a new set of regulations which would require bus companies to acquire road permits.  A meeting has been scheduled for February first between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Transport, his C.E.O. and other transport officials as well as Mexico’s Director General of Communication and Transport, Javier Felix Zetina Gonzales. That meeting will be held in Quintana Roo and the outcome will be made public soon after.

In other news from Mexico, the entry fee to that country has increased. In 2011, the fee, which is known as Derecho de No Immigrante (DNI), was two hundred and sixty-two pesos. That has now gone up by five dollars from two hundred and ninety-four pesos, or the equivalent of forty-nine Belize dollars. But that applies to persons staying in Mexico for more than seven days, or using Mexico as a transit point to go to another country. Persons who have a visitor’s card also pay the fee if they spend more than three days in the country. The charges apply to visitors from all countries, including Belize and can be paid at any bank in Mexico.

They are going to price themselves right out of the game too. We go that route because it is less expensive than flying from Belize to the US. If they make just as costly there will be no one gpoing that way soon and they will lose out on all the fees we already pay.

What about their busses come our way do we cahrge them? We cannot even leave the country because of all the traffic on the bridge.

UPON ENTERING THE FREEZONE.. THERE SHOULD BE A BOOTH THAT ALLOWS MEXICANS OR ANY OTHER NATIONALITY TO PAY AN ENTRANCE FEE.. WHEN WE GO TO CHETUMAL WE BELIZEAN’S NEED TO SPRAY, AND THAT COSTS.. WELL WE ALSO NEED TO HAVE A FORM OF INCOME GENERATOR LIKE A BOOTH AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE FREE ZONE.. AND WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO THE CASINOS A FORM OF SPRAYING AS WELL.. IT MIGHT DELAY TRAFFIC BUT LETS FACE IT. TRAFFIC IN THE NORTHERN BORDER IS ALWAYS HECTIC.. COME BELIZEAN.. A PERSON OR A COUNTRY SHOULD ONLY GET RED ONCE.. LETS NOT GET PLAYED OR LET OTHERS IMPOSE ON US WHAT THEY FEEL LIKE AND IF SO .. SO CAN WE.. WE ARE 30 YRS OLD
