P.U.P. Caribbean Shores standard bearer is out of the race
People’s United Party candidate for the Caribbean Shores constituency, Anthony Mahler, has stepped down as standard bearer with immediate effect. Mahler won decisively over his opponent Joe Coye in a party convention held in April 2011. His campaign for the upcoming general elections was already underway as banners and other propaganda adorn several lampposts in the constituency. Mahler was set to challenge the United Democratic Party’s Santino Castillo, who defeated Chandra Nisbet-Cansino and Ann-Marie Williams during a U.D.P. convention held in December, in the race to become the area representative. A formal resignation was tendered today in which Mahler attributed his withdrawal to personal reasons. In his letter Mahler affirmed his belief in the People’s United Party, by saying “I truly believe that a P.U.P. united in spirit and in mandate of service to all Belizeans is the best possible alternative for governance.” Mahler is known to be a close political ally of former party leader John Briceño. In the wake of his victory over Coye, allegations were made that the convention had been bought and that Coye was the victim of a smear campaign. With general elections presumably only a few months away, preparations are being made to determine a replacement; however, it will be interesting to see how much political ground his successor will be able to cover before the electorate goes to the polls.
His wife said no from beginning that he should not run. What a novice-you are supposed to have foresight all the way down the road-a quitter. He was going to do this and that and whip this one and that one-counted chickens before they hatched? Next time don’t betray your own side.
Wow! He picked up some of Johnny’s habits of resigning too?
interesting…that is all I can say. This story is not really about what Mr Mahler has said. It is about what Mr Mahler and the P.U.P have not said. May be they are going to put Francis Fonseca in Caribbean Shores. Don’t you think?
Politics is not for the weak of stomach. You have to have intestinal fortitude to survive the rigours of the political trail. Perhaps young Weedy did not have it. He ran in 2006 for city council, but the generals is a whole different ballgame. There is another story here, though. One having to do with money. Up to thursday night Mahler was fully committed to his constituency. In fact Thursday and Friday his crew was putting up banners, working closely with the secretariat threesome (myrtle, sharole and yasmin). Friday morning he met with Johnny, Mark, Cordel, and then friday evening he resigns. What was offered? Is Anthony bought and paid for? Game after game after game with the PUP. When will they learn? When will Francis learn? Kick them all out. Bring some new, fresh people. The game is getting old.
So many years have passed. two terms for PUP some years for UDP, the debts getting higher, inflation killing us, resources depleted, and people still blind. The parties both stand for corruption! Why don’t the young aspirants get together and form an alliance. They have potential too! We can no longer believe nor trust in our old dogs, they’re millionaires off our taxes. We had, have, will have Nothing. What is there for our children. Nothing, poverty, haad life, unemployment! Only 300,000 ppl, and resources are not enuff they say. Will Belizeans still vote them back in. Down South- Advocating for independent candidate, who are more OUR SONS- the sons of the underprivileged. Let them get the opportunity! Take this No more Belizeans, No more. Stop hurting yourselves continuously.
Another one bites the dust… PUP broken up.. and simply just not ready for this country…
to the “south at heart”. I have no issue with your opinions expressed but I do take offence by your analogy of using “blind” to suggest ignorance, stupidity, backwardness. I don’t know you but I can bet that blind people in Belize have accomplished things that youhave not achieved. Rowan climbed Victoria peak , Teresita is completeing her Bachelors Degree from UB, Richard is attending UB, Charlie runs his own program in a radio station down south, Donovan has been employed at LOVE FM for years now,Ricardo is a very succesful businessman in San Pedro. All these people are blind but they have tremendous vision. It’s unfair especially in this era of technology where we should know about all these developments!
South at heart obviously did not mean external physical blindness, as internal mental blindness is 10 times ‘worsarah’!
i think EVAN cannot read between the lines I totally understood what SOUTH AT HEART pointed out . we need new leaders but this is the chance for the independent players or the VIP or the other party to take lead.
deal with the reallity when the 3rd parties start put up credible .candidates that people would like to lelect, or stop fighting each other and unite, if the cant do that now and not even a mass party what is to b expected of them, its like change the color of a house same house, this is what the pup does with its own , when they dont serve thier agenda noh
? u guys sending mahler to slaughter when couple days ogo he was a great men and so good for caribbean sure, u all need to check urselfeves ur a bunch a selfish individuals, dats why fi unuh party wah always deh da back!!!
