Reports that Guatemalan killed in crossfire inside Chiquibul National Park

Tonight there are reports that several Guatemalans have been injured and there is a fatality following crossfire inside the Chiquibul National Park. While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade says that they have reports of several incidents in the national park and that one Guatemalan national may have been killed, it also expresses regret and sympathies to the families of those affected. The incident happened on January twenty-eighth between the B.D.F., Police, Forest and Immigration Officers and Guatemalan nationals. While the details are yet to be established, the Police Department will be leading the investigation and the OAS office in the Adjacency Zone will assist.  For close to a decade the media has been reporting that the Chiquibul National Park has come under systematic attacks, primarily from Guatemalans. Over the years, patrol units have documented the impact on the timber, xate, and wildlife. These incursions have grown to the formation of illegal squatting inside Belize. In recent years, the security forces were beefed up and regular joint forces operations were put into effect, but it is difficult to monitor the long stretch of border.

Prensa Libre is an anti-Belizean Guatemalan newspaper. They always write stupidness and baseless stories. They write yery-so stories and instigates against Belizeans. I served in the Force for 22 years and I tell you that these Guatemalans are stubborn worst than their own mules. They are aggressive and will charge against you with a machete even if you have a rifle pointing at them. Really rough for our BDF guys out there. Let us pray for our soldier in those deep dark jungles of our precious jewel. Stay strong my BDF guys and be alert. You make us proud along the borders, I wish I could have a second chance along the border. But I have done my fair share. God bless Belize.

  2. Liberty and Freedom says:

The article left out is the looting of archaeological sites. Important for the history of this country and
    tourism.

  3. Wake Up Belize says:

I know all people are human beings and deserve to live. But Guatemala has to get the message that we can no longer sit and watch these people enter our backyard, do whatever they need to do and role. It is about time we send a clear message to the OAS that we will defend our territory came what may. I think Belize is the only country in the world that allows these kind of events to happen just because the OAS wants to confirm this and that. If we don’t do this now then when our children grow up we might not have a Belize anymore so be ready to defend the jewel now.

The BDF soldiers are there to protect and serve.
Kill only when it is absolutely necessary, and not out of ignorance or intolerance.

    Peace is better than war.
The last thing Belize want is a war with Gautemala.

  6. Jones says:

It is important to defend our borders and I sincerely congratulate the BDF soldiers that do their utmost best to keep our forests intact.

We must support our BDF at all times.

  7. Storm says:

One invader down, thousands more to deal with.

    It’s a beginning.

  8. THE VIPER says:

I have seen our Belizean newspaper belittle the Guatemalans yet the Prensa Libre ignorantly criticizes us. So sad, thought they were smarter! I recently read a blog on face book where Guatemalans commented on the incident, they called us monkeys and murders. I couldn’t believe it but it just goes to show that they are really ignorant. What the BDF did was their job. Those people are always incurring into our territory to steal our xate, our timber, loot our Mayan temples and destroy our flora and fauna. They shoot at our security forces, rob the tourist visiting Belize and when our security forces deal with them harshly the cry foul, like cry babies. We should comment our security for a job well done.

Belizan(uk) have shot an unarmed Guatemalan national in the back. I suggest ‘Belizeans” look forward to assimilation into the general Guatemalan nation and cut short their ‘evolution’ into being colonialists. The majority being of African origin is not as big a deal as the fact that Guatemala will inevitably attack if there is no will of the belizean black population. This land is Guatemalas and Guatemalans have no interest is slaughtering the non native populations of Belize. Integration will greatly benefit theregion. There has to be a Central American block but is not possible because of English strategic interests. These interests include drawing USA into their foreign policies. US founding fathers warned of entangling alliances. This is an alliance that needs disentangling for regional cohesion..friggin usurpers!
