PM’s NO to ‘Humble’ Referendum Request
The Coalition to Save Our Natural Heritage will not get the Referendum on Offshore Drilling on the same day of the General and Municipal Elections. The Prime Minister outlined the reasons at Tuesday’s press conference saying the coalition had it wrong. And there’s more tonight because thousands of the signatures have been rejected. It’s a big blow to the environmental community, in particular Oceana Belize whose vice president for Belize Audrey Matura Shepherd has kept the issue on the front pages ever since Oceana opened an office in the country. The PM was sarcastic when he said he was unable to grant Matura’s humble request.

“I assume of course that the verification exercise that the chief elections officer is doing will in fact establish that the valid number of signatures meets the required threshold. I did get a letter—I’m sorry—from Miss Matura yesterday which I found the height of effrontery suggesting that this government should go to the National Assembly and have the National Assembly declare that the referendum on their issues is to be had and is to be had on the seventh of March. I will not quarrel with a soul, but I repeat that I do think it took some … for that suggest to have been made. Let me just make clear that the National Assembly will stand dissolve as of Friday so that even with the best will in the world, I will not be able to accede to what I am sure is a very humble request that Miss Matura is making.”
ur going ballhead just wait!!
deany is afraid his days are counted he will have fu go and go fu good he have failed us and miserable bye bye
Dean is confident that he’s in for another round, hurray!! I know di man can do it
No to off shore drilling
I am quite sure that the PM will gladly submit to a change of leadership. He will make a lot of money either way as the litigation issues over Belize Telemedia wil keep his Law firm in work for many years. but I digress. If the numbers made public by Oceana are accurate by ± 15% the outcome will still be the same. If the official acceptance of numbers are less, then look for a fix.
The people of Belize are clearly saying NO!
My fear is the the Deals are already done. The contracts are written, posted and accepted and the Government who ever attains leadership (and I use my words wisely) will have, unless they are very courageous, a battle royale on their hands. The Oil Industry has huge a lobby world wide and will not give up without a fight. If we said no to all and held on to and used our own resources we may well find head rolling; literally.
It is very pleasing to see Ms. Andrews last poll!!!And the poll that channel five is taking, but we must remember that the masses are people who don’t really understand AND ARE ONLY TOO HAPPY TO RECEIVE THE LITTLE HANDS OUT AT ELECTION TIME!!! BUT ANYWAY THE ARROGANT FOOL HAVE TO GO!!!!!!!!! IF UDP WINS WE ARE MOVING FAR NORTH, Mexico, Canada or USA!!!
