Carlos Espat Murder Trial sent to Supreme Court

Silvio Espinosa

In news from the courts, former educator and political scientist, Carlos Espat, was brutally murdered at his apartment in September 2010. Espat, who is also the brother of Albert Area Representative, Mark Espat, was found inside his bathroom with injuries to the head and chest. Four months after the incident, Nicaraguan national, Silvio Espinosa, was arrested in January 2011 and charged for the heinous murder. And today, Espinosa saw his case committed to the Supreme Court for trial when a preliminary inquiry concluded before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith. Twenty-four statements were tendered into evidence during the P.I. and Espinosa’s attorney chose not to challenge any of it. Espat’s body was found inside his apartment on September third and it initially appeared to have been a case of sudden death since there was no sign of forced entry. But a post mortem examination soon revealed that the forty-seven year old had been bashed on the chest and head with a blunt object. The trial against Espinosa is set to begin on April sixteenth.
