Belize’s 1st conviction on a Human Trafficking case

Human trafficking is a national problem, but most cases go unreported or unsolved due to the secretive nature of the crime. Well tonight, we report on the country’s first conviction on a Human Trafficking related charge. According to release from no less than the Magistrates Court itself, fifty-four year old naturalized Belizean, Narciza Orellana of Santa Elena Town was found guilty on January thirty-first of Attempted Trafficking in Persons. Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith sentenced Orellana to eighteen months in prison. The charge is in relation to an incident on April twenty-sixth, 2010 when Orellana attempted to recruit a female minor with intentions to use her as a commercial sex worker. The case was prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lynn Vidal. The court release assures that the Magistracy Department,   the police department and D.P.P.’s office are putting every effort forward to fight human trafficking in Belize.

Why are some people so quick to assume that it is a man that does these wicked things well I got news for those who feel this way, there are a lot of evil @$$ women out there also and this Narciza Orellana just happens to be one of those evil women wonder why channel 5 does not have a picture and no mention of the sex of this person could it be that the person who wrote this story is a woman and a sexist and wants the rest of us to believe that women never do these types of things, for those who don’t know when a Spanish name ends with an a it is most likely a woman when ending with an o most likely a man just some food for thought. here is a link that should clear up the story, http://freedomnow.org/Human-Traffickers-Index/Narcisa–Orellana/5/9361/

Let me try this again. How about fine and confinement, cancel residency, and then deportation back to country of origin?. Other countrys do this to anyone who is naturalized or issued Residency and have committed certain felonious acts. The message is in the right direction but need to be more stringent, otherwise we’ll have more of the same happening, knowing that they’ll only get a slap on the wrist. Come on and step up a notch with our judiciial system mein. Wi still deh behind time!!!

  9. JS says:

There are plenty of women who prostitute themselves willingly, so why not give them the job and stop forcing young girls!
