Rape suspect, U.S. fugitive caught

A second US fugitive has been captured in Belize in less than two weeks. At around two o’clock on Saturday afternoon, police received a tip that fifty-seven year old George Thomas was heading into Belize from Guatemala. With the help of Melchor Police, Thomas was intercepted and detained near the border. He was travelling in a Dodge Ram pickup with US license plates. Thomas is wanted by US Marshalls for a charge of Rape pending in Arkansas. He remains in custody of Belize police, awaiting extradition to the US.  Only a week and a half ago, on January twenty-fifth, twenty-nine year old Larene Austin was captured in Punta Gorda. Austin was wanted for the murder of Lanelle Barsock, who was shot in the head at point blank range at her home in Palmdale, Los Angeles in 2010.

Unfortunately, Belize cannot throw them under the jail house for any crimes since they did not commit any crimes on Belize grounds.

There are many corrup policemen in Mexico, and more than often this is how those fugitives and drugs get pass borders into Belize, etc.

  2. it's just that simple says:

if they got money, sue the US criminals in US court for the trouble and government expenses.
It might be easier to recoup hard earned Belizean tax dollars, and not have to pay for their long-term prison costs in Belize.

BELIZE POLICE…Sometimes they do a good job. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

This is proof that Belize is an INTEGRAL PART OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY.

Glad to see the police is doing a great job of apprehending these guys, now we have to stop them coming in the first place.

We should do all visitors like the US immigrations do with us. We have to prove why we need to come to their country. In Belize our immigrations let them in with a smile.

Charge all foreigners to come in and use our resources and have them line up for a long time just like we have when we arrive in Miami, Houston or wherever. I am not against genuine tourism and that will always happen but we need to scrutinise the quality of people coming in. Belize have their own criminals we don’ t need anymore.
