4 men shot on Albert Street

Five expended shells were found at the scene of a shooting on Tuesday night. Four men were injured, one remains hospitalized. Police don’t have much to go by and those at the Battlefield Park are too scared to speak. From what we gather, two assailants opened fire at the men as they changed a tire on a van. They fled through the park in the cover of darkness. News Five’s Jose Sanchez reports.

Four men were shot near the Battlefield Park on Albert Street at ten forty five Tuesday night while they were changing a flat tire to a white Astro Chevrolet Van. Twenty-year-old Gilbert Wade was shot to the right thigh, eighteen year-old Kendell Flowers was shot on both of his arms, and thirty-year-old Dion Lord was shot on his inner thigh. Battlefield Park resident, forty-nine year old Evon Jones was shot in the ribcage.  The police investigation is in its infancy.

“Last night just about 10:55, the police visited the K.H.M.H. where they saw four men suffering from what seemed to be gunshot wounds to various parts of their body: arms, thigh, and abdomen. Initial investigations revealed that at about 10:45 last night, four men were in the vicinity of the battlefield park when gunshots were heard that caused the injuries to the four men. At this time, police have not gotten; we have nobody in custody, but processing the scene, we recovered five expended nine millimeter shells from the area.”

“Was it someone on a bicycle, some walking, someone driving that caused the shots?”

“There is absolutely no suspects at this time. We continue to investigate this matter.”

“The men; did they see anything or they just got shot?

Raphael Martinez

“They just got shot.”

Jose Sanchez

“Were all four men together or was there anybody from the park that got injured?”

Raphael Martinez

“What happened, Wade, Flowers and Lord were actually changing a tire by the battlefield park area and apparently Jones was standing around in the vicinity when he was shot.”

“Okay so they were changing a tire for this white Astro van. Did they know if anyone was following? Did they indicate if they had any enemies?”

“There is absolutely no indication at this time and there is absolutely nobody detained at this time as well.”

Jose Sanchez

“So far all three men associated with the vehicle have been released from the hospital?”

Raphael Martinez

“All three men have been released, but the latest information I received was that Jones was admitted in a stable condition with apparent gunshot wounds to the left ribcage with an apparent exit wound to the right side of his ribcage.”

“So at this time, it is too early to say if it was a random shooting or something that was carried out or planned?”

Raphael Martinez

“Yes it is indeed at this stage. It is a bit early to say what actually transpired; what was the motive of the shooting.”

When we last checked the KHMH, Jones was still in stable condition. Due to his mental illness, it is uncertain if he will be able to assist with the police investigation.
