Finnegan wakes to color Mesopotamia red

When looking at the percentages in the last General Elections, the best statistical win was by Mesopotamia Area Representative Michael Finnegan. Pundits believe that Finnegan has the safest seat in the country.  But that doesn’t mean Finnegan is making any less effort to attain votes. Normally, politicians are caught on the campaign trail with a handful of supporters, but Finnegan’s evening walk through his division was ‘traffic blocking’. News Five’s Jose Sanchez Reports.

Jose Sanchez, Reporting

Mesopotamia Representative and Housing Minister Michael Finnegan is barely recognizable in the middle of a red sea about to roll from his divisional office on Amara Avenue. Avenue after five p.m., Finnegan leads a campaign voyage with undoubtedly one of the larger contingents.

Jose Sanchez

“Did you ever think that when you started Party Politics that your seat would have been considered one of the safest seats in the country according to the Amandala?”

Michael Finnegan

Michael Finnegan, Area Representative, Mesopotamia

“Not in my wildest dream. But when you work hard and you dedicate yourself to something, at the end of the day this is what happens.”

Jose Sanchez

“Do you think it is going to be another blowout this next term?”

Michael Finnegan

“In the elections, I am always careful; I try not to boast. But I can guarantee you that this will be my biggest margin of victory this election. At the end of the day, being a good representative will pay off and the entire Mesopotamia division will come out and support me. We have three thousand seven hundred and ten voters in the Mesopotamia division and my aim is to get the entire three thousand seven hundred and ten and don’t tell me it is impossible. I’m my mind it is possible.”

Jose Sanchez

“In terms of your accomplishments at least in the past term, do you feel you’ve done enough? It does seem that you have one of the larger crowds out.”

Michael Finnegan

“I have delivered to the people of Mesopotamia in terms of education, in terms of health care, in terms of housing, in terms of sports, in terms of agriculture, in social assistance and I can continue down the line—I have delivered to the people of this division who I represent.”

Finnegan’s Wake to politics includes voracious reading. His many campaigns as an area representative are guided by the Book Strive Towards Freedom, written by Martin Luther King.

Michael Finnegan

“Dr. King said, he who starts in a race behind must forever remain behind or run faster than the man in front. He said it is enough to give up in despair but there are times when life demands the perpetual doing of the impossible. Still too we must embark upon this difficult time and sometimes bewildering course. With a dynamic will, we must transform our minus into a plus and must move on through the storms of injustice and the justly winds of daily handicap towards the beaconing light of fulfillment.”

Jose Sanchez

“Is there any competition for you? Is this just all you?”

Michael Finnegan

“I do not pay attention to my competition because the competition is really minimal. So I don’t pay attention to it. My concern is the

people of Mesopotamia division and I know they will vote for me again and I know they will vote for me again and I will deliver to them again.”

Deliverance occurs on March seventh. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.
