Another toddler dies at the K.H.M.H.
Also in Belize City, another baby has died at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and while details are still sketchy, at first blush it points to the general decay in the health system. Information reaching our newsroom is that the infant was released from the K.H.M.H., sent home, but worsened and was then admitted to the Belmopan hospital on Thursday. According to Dr. Javier Magaña, the child came to him already in critical condition around one-thirty in the afternoon. The baby needed a blood transfusion, but could not have it done in Belmopan because of the risk of a cardiac arrest. Dr. Magaña says he opted to transfer the child to Belize City to have the procedure done at the K.H.M.H. where he would have access to a ventilator. The baby left the capital city around four on Thursday and by Friday the child expired at the K.H.M.H.
