Fatal Traffic Accident takes the life of retired woman

An elderly Biscayne woman was knocked down and killed as she rode a bicycle on the Northern Highway on Saturday evening. The driver, forty-five year old David Zetina, was heading towards Belize City and claims that he was blinded by the high beam of a vehicle heading in the opposite direction. When he spotted sixty-seven year old Constance Andrewin riding on the road, he applied brakes but it was too late to avoid hitting her. News Five spoke to Raphael Martinez, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Police, who says charges are pending against Zetina.

“On Saturday, about 6:45 p.m., police visited Biscayne where they saw the apparent lifeless body of one Constance Andrewin; a sixty-seven year old retiree of Biscayne Village. Reportedly what happened was that David Zetina, the driver of the blue Ford F150 truck was driving towards Belize City when he was blinded by an oncoming vehicle and by the time he applied breaks it was already too late and unfortunately he hit Miss Constance Andrewin which caused the fatal injuries. She was taken to the K.H.M.H. where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have since served David Zetina with notice of intended prosecution. They have taken urine samples just to certify whether or not he was actually under the influence of alcohol or any additional drug.”

  1. SP says:

This may be true that he was was blinded by oncoming traffic. It has happened to me before especially by those so called HID’s. These lights actually blind you, Transport department should just ban these lights. And this compounded with the highway having little to no markers or street lights. Just makes it harder on us drivers, I try to keep off the highway at night, it’s too dangerous.

    Condolences to the family.

The highways in Belize are so dangerous, especially the from Orange Walk to Corzal. What does the TRansport department to with all the revenues collected from vehicle registration and drivers license? That money suppose to be invested on the Highways, more signs,or reflector lines.

  3. Verry pissed grandaughter says:

Im sorry but ive been driving since I was 15 and I knw that road reallt well since I grew up ther
My grandmother never rides a bike without a reflector or lught
Ever since we were kids moreover if you were blinded why were you still speeding
Common sense would tell you to slow down politically if it was there mother or grandmother he would have been charged but because she was a “commoner” nothing will be done Zetina is lucky my family isnt revengeful or he would have never made it downtown

  4. Charlie Price says:

Safe DRIVING and RIDING should be A MISSION FOR THE MINISTERY OF TRANSPORTATION.

PUBLIC SERVICE announcements WOULD BE A GGOD START!

  5. Pelican says:
