Was stolen vehicle linked in murder of Benito Mendoza in Belmopan?

The police department has busted two of its own members with a stolen vehicle, which may be linked to a murder in Belmopan. On February twenty-sixth 2012, while patrolling the Caribbean Investors Road in Belmopan City, they stopped a green Toyota Hilux, being driven by Police Constable Virgil Perez and Constable Dwayne Salgaro.  Perez, thirty years old, is attached to the Patrol Branch and Salgaro, twenty-three years old, is attached to the Mahogany Precinct. The state of the vehicle looked suspicious to the patrolling officers who noted that the right rear window was shattered. Upon further inspection the patrolling officers saw that the ignition was damaged and parts of the ignition was scattered on the vehicle floor.  Both officers, Perez and Salgaro have been detained pending investigations. The stolen vehicle may also be linked to last Friday’s murder of Benito Mendoza, who was executed outside the Junction Night Club where he was purchasing food from a vendor. Mendoza’s assailant, with whom he reportedly had an earlier disagreement, delivered the fatal shot to the left side of his temple. He died on the spot and immediately after the shooting, police set chase after a getaway vehicle similar to the stolen Toyota Hilux.  But the gunman managed to escape.

The police department is also investigating an incident of burglary which also involves a stolen Toyota Hilux from Belmopan. At three-thirty p.m. on Sunday, a police mobile patrol went to a feeder road in the Another World area of Roaring Creek where a grey Toyota Hilux was being consumed by fire. The flames were doused by the fire department after which the vehicle was identified as belonging to the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture.  Inside the pan, the charred remains of four Dell computers, three Dell monitors and a printer were found. There were reports that two persons were seen running from the burning vehicle. The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture has confirmed that the vehicle and the contents were stolen from its office.

Nothing is worse than a dirty copper. If these “Constables” committed murder, HANG THEM HIGH. No mercy, no exceptions.

What are police officers doing driving a vehicle with a “hot-wired” ignition, anyway? These guys make my skin crawl.

Mr. Singh, how many other criminals do you have in uniform?

  2. Seletar says:

Hang the killers, but congratulations to the good police who caught the bad apples. They deserve recognition and commendation.

  3. Tanya says:

The police force needs a cleansing and purging. Begin with the ones who can’t read and write a proper sentence. They are not in it for the country’s sake but to take advantage of people and to have a licensed gun with which they commit crimes and blame the unemployed and gangs.

We see now WHO are the gangs , the Bloods, the Crips, the MS13 !!!
Wonder if the police dept. has some shame and will deal serious or will cover up?

These guys are a disgrace to the police department and to this country. It’s the ones like these who give the department and their fellow law enforcement officers a bad reputation, I am outraged by this, this justifies immediate termination and followed by criminal charges. I believe that we as a people of this country has come too far with police going rogue and police corruption. I strongly agree with Tanya when she mentioned that some of the officers are not in the service of protecting and serving the people but however are in it only for the money and to find ways to hustle. Mr. Minister of police, I believe it’s come too far.

Rogue Cops are all around but for us here in Belize, we can see how our cops are getting linked to these gangster. They inform them when an operation will be launched, they collect money from all the weed, crack and cocaine sellers. There are some good cops, but because of the amount of wicked ones the department suffer. Sincere and honest people do not even want to give police information because they fear for their life. Police department need to do a lot of physical training and sit an exam every 3 months in order to qualify them to continue working in the department. The ones that love the job will comply, but the ones that are there will move away because they are not for the long term sacrifice. Love to the nation and it’s people should be their motto.
