Witness to beating speaks on camera

Residents of the area say they witnessed the GSU overstep their bounds in an abusive manner. Many of them fear further brutality, but one woman says she is willing to speak out because in all her years in Taylor’s Alley, this is the first time she has witnessed such brutal incidents. She says they have lost hope in the law enforcers.

Resident, Taylor’s Alley, Witness

“I deh eena di street from I fourteen and I thirty-six now—I deh ina the street from long and I neva see police cruel to people so neva yet. I hear bout it but I neva see police do that to people like that yet. Last night when I see it, it hurt me cause I noh know if my child good to the system or bad to the system, but if I mi see they have my child to the ground like that and the abuse ahn, I mussi mi wah run and grab that gun and then beef mi wah happen. It woulda mi be crazy; it neva mi wah be like that. Me as a mother to watch they do my child that. I wish I neva se they do my child that. We noh wah deh against the police them, but the if somebody chance me, the first person I gwen to dah the police because I know police deh deh fi when somebody chance you to go talk to. But the way I see it now, there is no police to go and tell. Betta yuh guh tell the gun man dah the shop and tell the gunman ah need ah gun. Deh have some kids last night weh see weh di police di do to dehn pa on the ground—little kids: four years old and two years old see that last night. That neva mi look right. That make I cry. I mean fi say principle. We expect principle from the police. if nothing else, we expect principles from the police, yuh know.”

The injured men have all been released. The GSU has not issued any statements on the allegations.

I agree with this person its bad for the kids to see this side of the police but, its also bad for them to see how their parents sell the drugs, gamble and kill each other. The goverment should see that this people dont bring more kids to this world. What will they do? The samething like their parents and live on the streets.

This is a sensitive issue. Everybody knows the murder rate with black om blac crime has gone up. Now a special unit has bben developed to help combat and eliminate gang activity and related murders, and some people are complaining that this unit is uss=ing excessive force om gang members??? So the gsu should treat them like the humans, when these same humans have no value for a human life???? TheGSU seem to have the same regard for these gangbangers that they have toward life and taking one’s life, NONE,,, Can you blame them???? They are giving them a taste of their own medicine, except without killing. Roughening them up, is what they are use to. They KILL & ROB & do not hesitate to kill when they feel they can get away with it, which seems to be the NORM in Belize these days. IT is becomming a well-known fact that, people are being killed faster than flies in Belize and their murderers get away with it the majority of times. I ASK AGAIN, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF INNOCENT PEOPLE, HOW DO YOU EXPECT THE GSU TO REACT TO THESE WELL-KNOWN MURDERERS IN BELIZE?????
