Man shot multiple times; no motive established
Less than twenty-four hours after the robbery, gunshots rang out on Kraal Road at dawn today and when the echoes faded forty-nine year old Emmanuel Robinson had been hit multiple times. The shooting occurred just a few feet away from the now infamous location where a grenade was thrown in December 2009. Robinson, a resident of the neighborhood, was en route to work at the Ministry of Works about five o’clock when he came under heavy gunfire from an unknown assailant near the intersection with Haynes Street. Despite being gravely injured, Robinson somehow managed to walk over to Caesar Ridge Road and a mobile police patrol whisked him off to the K.H.M.H. where he is clinging to life. Residents in the area remain tightlipped about the shooting, saying only that the assailant fled the scene in a red vehicle. News Five spoke with Acting Police Press Officer Raphael Martinez who told us earlier that they are currently following all leads in this incident.
Raphael Martinez, Acting Police Press Officer
“At approximately 5:10 this morning, March twenty-eighth, 2012 police transported one Emmanuel Robinson, forty-nine years old of a Belize City address, also an employee of the Ministry of Works, to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Initial investigations revealed that sometime around five o’clock this morning he was walking en route to work when upon approaching the corner of Haynes and Kraal Road he was fired upon by an unknown assailant or assailants. He continued walking up to Caesar Ridge Road where he met a patrol, a police and the consequently took him to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and at the time of this report he is in a stable condition.”

“Is he a resident of that particular area? Is he an associate of residents of that community?”
Raphael Martinez
“Yes, he resides in that general area.”
Isani Cayetano
“What are the investigations saying insofar as speaking with residents around there who may have heard something or may have seen what took place?”
Raphael Martinez
“According to what he mentioned to the police is that he could not identify his shooter but police do have a lead and we prefer not to mention anything more on that at this time.”
The shooting of Emmanuel Robinson took place within the line of sight of a nearby police surveillance camera since the vicinity is a known hotspot. Residents however, complain that the device hasn’t been functional for quite some time now.
