Briceño shot several times by robbers

Also in Corozal Town, a businessman was ambushed and shot by robbers near his home on Park Street South. Corozal police have confirmed that forty-one year old Guillermo Briceño, owner of Champion Pawn Shop, arrived home at around twelve-thirty on Sunday morning and as he exited his vehicle, he was accosted by three Hispanic men. One man pointed a black handgun at him, demanding money and jewelry but Briceño did not have any valuables with him. When he could not meet their demands, he yelled for assistance. That’s when the gunman opened fire on him. Briceño was shot six times; twice on the right hip, three times on the right foot, once on his left foot. Minutes later police arrived on the scene and found Briceño lying on the street next to the vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital and was later transferred to the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk, where he remains tonight. Police have detained three persons and recovered a nine millimeter expended shell from the scene.
